The Sweet F.A Cup?

I was scrolling through some old threads and kept seeing continuous references to this thing called the Sweet F.A Cup. Eventually stumbling across this origin point, it seemed like a pretty great idea that lost steam in the early years of Qooty, but could it be brought back in some sort of way for Season 23?

The basic essentials are a round by round format that narrows down the final two by hard work and dedication to the art, or chance, for another finals type extravaganza like the Grand Final, based on the League Cup and I think the A - League do it? But it's in no way like the F.A Cup.

With so many different things to play around with, what are your thoughts on the idea of bringing back a cup campaign during the season?

You'd have to put a twist on it to separate it from the finals series.

Loser must trade one of their posters to the other team.

I like it, but unlike in soccer there's a knockout stage at the end of the season so it wouldn't be as significant.

I am a supporter though.

Yeah, for sure, I don't think there is any way around it though

Thinking this could be a similar random bragging rights situation , except it being something that could be done as a bit before the actual granny and the instant elimination aspect is a bit different. Games could be mid week to replicate how certain sports play "cup ties" on irregular dates or something.

How would match threads work?

Two simultaneous match threads would be werid, maybe Thursday-Monday as it would way to fill the Monday void.

Would SFA Cup stats count in all time stats? Should we name it after someone? When in the season are the games played?

This has so much potential.

The vibe could be a lot quicker, a days affair or two before the game is posted or something, but then again that could make it useless. It would be great to add some unique aspect that makes it different from a regular league match.

I hope so. I don't know, what are you thinking?

Potentially, The qualifying rounds which could be knock out or group stage could be played across the first half of the season, with the final however many played on a fortnightly period up until a week day after Mobbs around the beez trophy stage

I'd prefer it be straight into the knockouts, then play the final 9-10 weeks into the season, as the regular finals will take the limelight if the final is played at the time you're suggesting.

That's why this thread is here, figure out the best way to go about it. Could be an early season thing, or maybe even kicking off the finals series as in a week or two before.

Id say do it as a recruiting ploy, played between the club boards. Maybe choose an experience qootier as captain to help things along.

Can we call it the BRAB cup.

A secondary competition during the main season wouldn't work. It'll get overlooked in favour of the regular season match threads and media, some are also complaining that the season is too long. More of the same won't help maintain their interest.

Keep it offseason, short carnival style, make the format fundamentally different to what is usually done in the main season.

It's worth remembering that in the formative era of the SFA, there was only one season per year. There was 22-25 games per season, so likely this knockout format was a way of filling in time. The pre-season competitions were also more prestigious back then.

I'd rather play 2 seasons per year. It doesn't leave enough time to add a secondary competition, though.

I reckon this would be the best option to do it, once a year or so.

Don't they look so happy about winning that cup.

Looks like someone handed it to them with a fresh, steaming turd inside it.
Probably DapperJong he likes taking a dump in our goalsquare so not a big leap to make.
