I have a confession to make Tiger71 and I have "smoked the peace pipe" together the other night.

He isn't a bad bloke...…..I still hate his team...…..just as much as he hates ours.

One thing we didn't discuss was his Treloar story……..….I will wait till Lynch is in a Pies jumper before I do that. :p

Apparently he called us Frogs in his podcast the other night.

If he chooses tbe Hawks then it's 100% about the money, has friends at Richmond, family connections to us, nothing at the Hawks.
Money or culture adn success. They have been the best run club over the last 30-40 years or so. They had a hickup with their CEO and fixed it immediately. If I was a player looking to move to a Melbourne club I would 100% consider Hawthorn near the top on my list, more money or otherwise.

I wouldn't say he is our #1 source - i'd say that the AFL.COM article where the reporter spoke to 10 officials from 10 different clubs on their opinion on where his new home will be, with 100% of them unanimously stating "Richmond - to be a more solid source. I would say 95% of the time in all world sports when the rumour or expectation is for a player to go with a certain side is so strong within the industry - its the way it plays out.

I would be more than happy to get him on board, he is an excellent player at the right age. If we don't get him however, then we still have a excellent list to play with.
I agree, that’s what makes me think he’s probably going to Richmond. At the end of the day even the most well-connected sources probably aren’t 100% sure so I don’t know why anyone would post here claiming to have definitive info.

Honestly guys, he has a very good track record. Yes, he got Treloar wrong (as did a lot of media people because Treloar was telling us he was coming), but he's gotten so many more right and he's been doing so for years. Hampson, Petterd, Prestia, Nankervis. He brought up Schache's name as a player of interest the year before the media even reported it (as he's done again with Lynch).

Please don't take this the wrong way either. I just thought it might help to give you a bit of context as to why the Richmond board is trusting this guy so emphatically. He doesn't bullshit.

Honestly?

I wish Connors or D'Ozario would come out and say which club approached them/Tom first or in which order, just to prove these clowns right or wrong.

At the moment if he chooses us, the Tigers met him first and we just stole him in a suspicious manner.

I have already posted back in 2016 that we were into him back.

Besides Chocco saying they have been also I don't remember it being written anywhere.

Where did you get this info from?

Same source who told me WHE was a done deal back then.

Check out my post #3050 in this thread for the 2016 link.

I remember this cartoon was part of a larger group of cartoons.
I must have had it on tape and watched it a million times as a kid.
Nostalgia!!
Yeah Michigan J. Frog is interesting one, as he only appear in a one-off Warner Bros shot and they became famous much later. One of my favourite Chuck Jones shorts. :)

A lot more of that is true.

But as the best run club of the last 30-40 years how come they nearly went down the gurgler in their proposed Melbourne merger?

I believe they do many things well, like many clubs.
But having so much success covers up all the other things not so good.
Like most clubs.

It's the other way around.

Yes they had have their issues but they have resolved them and come back better. Like North they failed to take advantage of their 70's & 80's success. Unlike North they realised it and did something about it. They had Don Scott initially rasie the alarm, then act. The fact is they didn't merge and they didin't need to.

He then came in later when they were languishing until Kennett came along. Scott was putting together a board challange (I know one of the members of the ticket). Kennett was a circuit breaker and he ran the club well. Long before all of his they had the likes of Kennedy with huge influence.

Success doesn't cover problems it comes from dealing with problems and being a well run club. It isn't possible to have real success withough being well run. How well run and for how long determines how sucessful and how long the club is successful for.

Administrations drive success. Over the last 30-40 years Hawthorn have had the most success because they have been the best run. They haven't won every flag and they hevn't been the absolust best at everything every year but the record speaks fopr itself. By contrast we have been all over the shop. Bitter elections, threatened player strike in the 70s, series of coaches in the 80s, broke more than once, succession plan that de-railed the whole club. In between some quality administration and achievements. There is a reason we haven't won more flags and it isn t the AFL's fault or bad luck. It is administration. We have the resources to match anyone. We should have won more flags. Clarke, McDonnald, McAllister all were problematic. Eddie has been great and terrible at times.
