Agree - I am astounded and very proud of the resilience within the group.
We've probably had more injuries and to more important players than last year, (haven't checked and won't).

“Our injury status is not our narrative”: Buckley

They have certainly been horrible to us.
With quality like Elliott and Treloar all year we win last week.

I might get smashed for this, because the horse has bolted, but if Wells was fully fit we win at least two more games this year.
That may well be true. The reality though is that the Well's story isn't about luck it is about poor judgement. He occupies a list spot and salary cap while the games played is on par with many predictions given his age and injury status when we signed him. Perhaps we could equally say that had we recruited a younger, more sound player that could have made a more consistent contribution we might have won 1 more game this year and be top 4. We were a rabble off the field at that time. The Wells and Mayne recruitments have been problematic in terms of translating to on field impact and salay cap "waste". Would retaining Balme at that time have helped us and cost Richmond? Alternatively had we not made certain changes this last off season we might still be outside the 8 with pressure on Buckley.

You make good points.

Rarely have I seen an administrator kick the ball.

It does assist and helps the whole club tick along. Sometimes it can be destructive.
Though Carlton overcame the Harris brawl and losing Jesaulenko and kept winning flags. Great players?

But to me every time you see a Club win multiple flags in an era I always see the same thing:

Great players!

Use hawthorn in the 80s as an example.

Matthews Tuck Breteton Ayres Langford Dunstall Platten Jarman
Dipierdomenico Buckenara

With those types they’d have to knock up winning flags.

Players players players.

And when success comes the admin tends to be all ok too. Everything happy no agitated types.

We did stuff up in the 60s 70s with the players we had but some of those crazy losses had nothing to do with whose far behind was sitting at the presidents lunch in my view.

But I do understand your view.

Bitterness through a club is a killer.
Thats true that administrators dont kick the ball. However, the best recruit Geelong ever got was Brian Cook. Brilliant gentleman. He could also have been the AFLs best recruit but they went for Demetriou. A terrible decision at the time and a worse decision after he left.

My point is Bucks and his assistants have been brilliant this year. I think they deserve some more credit for our year thus far.
I’ve always given credit where it’s due.

:)

Agree there.

Cook is outstanding

I’d agree Wells hasn’t been our win.

But he’s spot on the list is worth the risk.
Our list has far more risk in picking hope they work out picks like the Brown boys and Kirby, Wills.

Wells is elite talent so risk worth it.

Mayne different discussion and not worth of being the same sentence of.
Wells.

Honestly guys, he has a very good track record. Yes, he got Treloar wrong (as did a lot of media people because MATTHEWS was telling us he was coming), but he's gotten so many more right and he's been doing so for years. Hampson, Petterd, Prestia, Nankervis. He brought up Schache's name as a player of interest the year before the media even reported it (as he's done again with Lynch).

Please don't take this the wrong way either. I just thought it might help to give you a bit of context as to why the Richmond board is trusting this guy so emphatically. He doesn't bullshit.

FTFY.

Fair points raised.

The difference is the quality of players.

Richmond wins without Martin, Rance, Riewoldt?

No way.

Give us (ofcourse this won’t hapoen) Martin, the Bont, Rance and we are top 2! Assuming they fully fit.

Players of high quality make the single biggest difference.

For what it’s worth, our club is far from perfect but we’re running ok, it’s a united club. Apparently we have money.

You think Treloar, a fully fit Elliott, and a few others and were not top 4?

But it is never that simple.

Ps te Elliott it’s his back and that no team could fix with anything but it coming good in it’s own.
There’s no fairy dust for bad backs.
Explain to me how Hawthorn are in the top 4 in an 18 team competition after losing Buddy Mitchell Hodge Burchill Sicily Rioli Lewis Lake McEvoy and Brad Hill in various ways over the past 5 years?

Don't waste your time HCB........Saintly only rates Lethal and Bart Cummings.

It's up to the players and the Horse after that apparently.

the one thing i dont like is how underestimated a coach is, A good Coach can be worth 5 goals a game, a bad coach minus 5. Wayne Schimmelbusch and Mark Neeld minus 10 goals! you obviously need cattle and elite cattle can put you up as practically unbeatable with a decent coach, but in even years a good coach can absolutely win you a premiership with ordinary players.

This year with our team proves it.........not that I needed convincing.

He’s yours :(

Heard he told Richmond 12 months ago we’re his preferred choice, but now ppl in the club personally believe he would’ve told them something by now to confirm but we got cliches / non-committal manager talk instead. Thus, reading between the lines we’re starting to realise he’s going with Collingwood

Don’t know any details beyond that
