Tim Paine caught in sexting scandal, resigns as Test Captain

I thought he was a true ‘good guy’
It was the whole reason he was made captain.
He was appointed captain because he was the most reliable non-bowling selection in the team at the time.

Nothing to do with his character, though to be clear I'm not (currently) making comment on that either way.

Lots of question marks.

Paine was exonerated at the time from any code breaches but the allegations are bad enough now they are public to step down? If the alleged actions were bad and he shouldn't be captain, why was he appointed captain in the first place and/or why was he exonerated?

Why is this coming out now as opposed to any time in the prior 4 years?

Will he keep his spot in the team?

CA didn't find out until after they made him Captain. Clearly they didn't want another scandal so soon after Sandpaper-gate so they swept it under the rug.

His captaincy was the only thing keeping him there.

His glovework has gone down as he has aged and his batting has never been anything special
his captaincy is rubbish. it always was.

he was in there as a cultural leader. well, thats ****ed now

he shouldnt. he's not in there for his cricketing or captaincy ability.

with this, there is literally no reason for him to be in the team.

That's the point, he wasn't a great Captain, he wasn't very reliable with the bat, glovework overated.

The only reason he had kept his spot was by being Captain and the lack of other options to takeover and Cricket Australia felt they owed him.

There is no way they could select him now, in fact it would actually be detrimental to the team in terms of a distraction.
