I have mixed feelings on this.

Probably his test career over, so I'm glad that we can finally replace Paine with Carey/Inglis.

Makes you wonder why CA made him captain if they knew about this and how it might come up one day.

I don't like the fact though something from 4 years ago that has been dealt with is brought up to try and ruin someone.

You'd also think his wife who has forgiven him and moved on wouldn't like the fact they now need to deal with this all again publicly.

I'd imagine as soon as you cross the line it's all over even if it's just a text or photo. If I were Bon, a text or photo would be equally as bad as it immediately breaks the faithfulness. Kind of like if you got shot or hit by a truck, you'd be dead either way but the truck is much more gruesome and messier.

Pretty much, not surprised she didn't come forward until later. Still doesn't exonerate Paine. To take a convo from 'naughty thoughts' to a dick pic and 'finish me off' in about four messages while the other person is trying to tone down the innuendo is no mean feat. In fairness, the issue looked like it had been resolved before today and all parties had moved on. He hasn’t been “caught” doing anything, because everyone relevant to the situation knew all the details and have for the past 3 years.

There’s nothing really to answer for and it’s no one else’s business until it randomly hits the public like today, in which case its just damage control and hes done the right thing and stepped down. It’s purely optics.

The alternative is calling a press conference mid 2019 and blowing the whistle on yourself when it really isn’t noteworthy to anyone outside his family and CA “Look ive been involved in a sexting incident, I have been cleared of any wrong doing but I’ve decided to step down”

It’s not “wrong”, it’s shitty, but it’s not hangable. For an Australian cricket captain it’s definitely not what we want, and that’s why he no longer is.
