To Contend again, Richmond have no choice but clear the decks

There a few ways to access talent in the AFL, and Richmond for various reasons, only have access to one of those avenues.

1. NGA pathway

Richmond is the only club in the league to not have secured 1 player of merit in the NGA program, not an option in the short term, however there are some players of interest in 2025/2026. Unlike GC, GWS, Sydney ( half their good players ) we can't rely on this as a fertile breeding ground

2. Father sons

Since Richo and Joel Bowden we have had zero gun players, Pies have Daicos bros, plenty of eg of guns for free

3. Irish Rort

For Some reason we have not invested in this, while teams like Geelong have had some success

4. Free Agents

While we are last, this is not an option

5. Cat B

Soldo was good, but he is no Blicavs

6 The Draft

This is the only way forward. We need to replace players like Dusty, Rance, Cotchin, Jack.
Players of this quality are early first Round Draft picks, we need early first round draft picks to get players of this quality
With Tassie coming we need to do something drastic, or we will be stuck at the bottom, for another 37 years


This is why the door has been opened for Rioli, Bolton Graham and Baker to leave, they are the players with currency, they are the ones to get us the picks and if we get overs, they will all be allowed to leave

We probably end up 1,6,9,10,14,17,21

That's 7 1st rounders and 3 2nd rounders in the next 2 drafts

Thats 10 high quality kids to add to Gibcus, Ralphsmith, Mcaleiff, Campbell, Banks, Brown, Trezise, Bauer Ross Rioli Mansell Green

We will go from the worst young squad in the league, the the best by far, in two drafts

It will be exciting, it will be worth going to watch these guns grow and develop, and after 3 flags, we need to take 5 steps back, to start going forward.


Caveat, we stuff up these picks, we are genuinely FARKED !

I don't know if we want 7 picks in the first round in one year. Better to space them over a couple of years, to stagger their development. Also, it gives us a look at who we get in year 1, and if we hit the jackpot, we have some draft capital to trade for a proven gun or two to fill any needs.

You watch, after we rig the draft this year, AFL will change the rules and make it a lottery system like the NBA draft

3. Who have cats got? Oisin Mullin and Mark OConnor? They're both average af. Tuohey was a trade front Carlton. Good Irish players are rare as hens teeth. You're much more likely to find an AFL player from here.

4. Correct. Tom Lynch is the best ever free agency recruit.

5. Soldo is a premiership player. That puts him in the best handful of cat B players ever. We dont have a spare spot to try another one until the big giraffe is cut.
