Tom Murphy joined the Gold Coast SUNS during the 2012 AFL Trade Period as a free agent.

Murphy has forged a reputation as a tagging defender during his 95 games at Hawthorn, and was a much respected player since he was taken in the 2004 draft.

Ironically he captained the Hawks for the round 24 clash with Gold Coast in 2011.

Murphy has endure plenty of heartbreak in his career date, being dropped during the finals series in both 2008 and 2012.

Murphy's experience and leadership will be valuable additions to the GC SUNS.

FREE-AGENCY recruit Tom Murphy is confident the added experience and confidence being shown by the Clubs backline players is a key to success for the Gold Coast SUNS in 2013.

The 95-game intermediate defender averaged 14 disposals at 80% efficiency in 2012, and only once did he not keep his opponent to zero goals.
