Hey crow people!

Just a question on where you guys rate Tony Modra among your best players ever??....because i think he was one of if not the most freakiest players we've ever seen, i don't think there was anyone who didn't like turning on the TV to see him play for the Crows, would u say his top 5 best crow player ever?? :thumbsu:

Cheers!

He'd be up there, that's for sure. The only real strike against rating him as one of the greatest was his lack of longevity in the AFL. He was only at the Crows for, what, six years? But there can be no denying he was as exciting a player as we have ever seen here in Adelaide.

His name would be in the same company as Ricciuto, McLeod, Hart, Goodwin, Edwards, Rehn, D. Jarman, Smart and Bickley.

he'd definitely be up there in the greatest adelaide players, overshadowed only by andrew mcleod, roo and maybe Jarman. He's great to watch, love watching his marks, just spectacular! :D

Maybe not our greatest ever player but I think most Crow fans would agree that he is probably the one we have never replaced.

Extremely unlucky not to be a premiership player.

Most would have him between 3rd and 7th on an all-time list I'd say. Personally 4th behind Roo, McLeod & Rehn.

He was the player who got me interested in footy and supporting the crows. I would have him in my top 5...

1. McLeod
2. Roo
followed by Modra, Jarman and Hart

I bet he was one of those players that didnt have to train hard either, just had a lot of natural ability...

I do remember hearing back in those days he couldn;t even go out of his house coz he would get mobbed....he was an absolute star and its a shame u hear absolutely nothing about him these days....had he have had a good 13-15 years career he could well have surpassed someone like Ablett.

I'm not a crows supporter but i absolutely love Andrew Mcleod and Loved Tony Modra.....both class acts.

There are players who people go to games just to watch...In my case I'd go to a Hawks game just to watch Buddy.

I think that same applied with Modra,Jarman and Mcleod. They got people to the games.

Stunning skills and were just great to watch play.

Bickley - great captain - never forget that tackle in the final seconds on 97 Prelim to hold up Bulldogs.

Roo- never forget the game at Optus in the rain against Carlton.

But for week in / week out pure entertainment the other 3 are on top.:)

Modra was up there with the best forwards of recent times. Next to probably Lloyd, Dunstall and Ablett, Modra in his time was certainly in the top 5. Certainly of the modern forwards (apart from Buddy), he still would be the better forward in that most full backs couldn't stop him on the lead AND in the air.

Sorry to go OT a bit but I was just wondering why Jarman is rated so highly? I'm too young to actually remember him playing. I've only heard of his magical fightback against the Roos, I think?

Pretty much because he kicked us into two grand finals, and then won them both.

(with macca's help).

D. Jarman was possibly the most skilled player I've ever had the fortune of watching. Dunstall once said that he was the best player he's ever seen (though probably not the most consistent).

cant remember him at Hawthorn? he was a gun back in those days. Best kick at goal i have seen for a non-traditional fwd

well that is refreshing to watch mods in action once again. gee what an absolute champion. i will never forget his first game or close to it,he played on garry pert and i think it was a night game and raining and he gave him the run around kicked 6 goals from memory and we had this out and out star on our hands. and to think the afl awarded garry ablett the mark of the century for his effort (total rubbish) anyway thanks for the memorys mods.

Those soccer goals were magic, best exponent of the off the ground goal of all time IMO. Funniest Modra moment I can recall was him taking a hanger over his favourite step-ladder Mick Martyn, then playing on from 1 metre out, kicking the ball about 100 meters straight up in the air, hitting the top of the goal post on the way down, much to the delight of Micky.
