The Jamarra Thread

Think it's either Allen or Marra for Lions
Dees are chasing Allen pretty hard

Problem is that Lions have some decent academy players coming up in future trades, so future trading won't be a big option for them
I know someone who is friends with Barrett (I know) and they mentioned weeks ago before this blew up that Barrett had told them that Brisbane were right into him and Allen less so.

I know Bev mentioned that these things crystallise at the end of the season, and in terms of structured processes that’s true, but I really don’t see how this situation can be left to continue this way for the rest of year. What more can the club do for this guy? The total disregard for his responsibilities as a contracted AFL player is astonishing and the club ultimately pays for this in multiple ways.
It may be that there is no mechanism to remedy the situation before trade period if JUH fulfills the bare minimum under his contractual obligations. Possibly along the Smith lines where you make yourself available for rehab or training and the club, with the wider playing groups interests at heart, p1ss you off overseas for a while so you don't fcuk everyone else up. It's not ideal ... but here we are ... again.

This might be something that can be addressed beyond this season but it seems like we're stuck with it this year.

In the meantime....that Darcy goes alright.

If you’re Jamarra, and you’re just not that keen on pulling the dogs jumper on again this year, why would he bother? Keep collecting those delicious pay cheques until he tells the f-wit Connors that he wants a new club.
This only changes if the money stops, and we all know that cannot occur.

Interestingly enough, Barrett said today that the lions interest has cooled on him. It’ll be a great reality check if Jamarra gets to the end of the year and there’s no better suitors for him.

Psychological profiling.
OK, let's accept for a moment that we could do it better. Then we get a generational talent like JUH come along who could be a Buddy-type talent for 15 years but will need some mentoring. We've mentored him right through his teenage footy years. We know he's going to attract a high bid, possibly at #1.

Do we just walk away from him because he's not a really focussed 17yo, and not match the bid? Of course not.

We match the bid 100 times out of 100.

Now is anybody suggesting we didn't mentor him well or look after both his and our interests AFTER he arrived at the club? Maybe, but I haven't seen the case made yet.

It's just a shit situation but I am not sure what the club could have done that would be a whole lot better.

We’ve done everything we can. Even the media are seeing it.

No. That's not what I'm suggesting. What I'm suggesting is that despite the innate talent that everybody could see, we're there flags (if you looked hard and skilfully enough) that suggested, despite the talent and mentoring, he's a significant chance of folding in the environment. And, if they were identified, did we ignore them or take the punt?

He's right. The AFL pay the wages of players, not clubs.
Technical incorrect
We submit annual reports with income - one being AFL sourced dividends and expenses - one being players wages. The wages are part of our expenses we submit in our profit and loss statement.

Indirectly you could argue we rely on the AFL dividends to afford to pay the players wages, yet its part our "our costs" in running the football club.

Player managers.
We're delusional if we think we can just not touch players who have Connors (or whoever) as their manager. If we do we're likely to exclude ourselves from nearly 50% of the top 20 draft candidates each year. Not to mention trades.

I'm not saying that no management company is manipulative, underhand or conniving but the club has almost no power to change the way these things operate. If the managers push for players to leave small clubs and have no sympathy for those clubs it's just another shit situation. We're swimming against the outgoing tide in the Shit Creek estuary.

And someone suggested these behaviours and recurring incidents would be bad PR for the agency. FFS, why? They are getting their players exactly what they want and quite possibly advising them the best tactics to facilitate each exit. If anything it'd really be boosting their appeal for prospective clients.

I think Marra has lost interest in playing AFL, it is simply that. He will milk his payments as long as he can, until he is eventually let go, possibly with a negotiated severance payment.

I don’t think he is interested in playing for another club. Possibly a few years facing the 9-5 reality, might make him reassess, but for now he is lost to footy.

The club is in quite a unique position with the situation. To have 2 players at the top ends of their drafts both turn up their toes in a similar fashion in quick succession.

There must be  learnings out of this.

And yet, concurrently, the best player in the league (currently injured) and potentially the next best player in the league (that guy that takes contested marks for fun and scares the bejesus out of every opposition fan I know) seem perfectly happy in the environment.

Is it them or us. I think it's them. Identifying  them before they affect us would be one of my highest priorities ,,,, when all is said and done .... at the end of the day.

Maybe I havent been paying enough attention, but can someone succinctly explain what has happened in the last 12 months such that Marra doesnt want to even go thru the motions of playing AFL this year?

Is it basically a case of marra burning his relationships with other players?

In the Bailey Smith case, Connors has absolutely done the right thing by his player. Got him to his club of choice, with that club needing to give up as little as possible.

They always do what’s right or their best regards to contract, but the circus that was the Smith situation and now the JUH situation isn’t a good look.

Connors won’t be coming out of this unscathed. Within the industry anyway.

Think Sydney would probably offer something as well.
Warner leaving would certainly help their currency hand.

If Jamarra doesn't play a game for the rest of the year, the absolute best we could hope for is a singular first rounder around pick 10. There's too much risk for clubs but there will certainly be a few that would be lining up.

If Jammara goes Brisbane we need to try get Kai Lohmann, I don’t know who I’d want from Sydney that’s a realistic chance. Neither of them will probably have decent draft picks.
