No issue with Young. 23 years old, 5 years in the system, versatile tall.

Don't expect wonders but would be cheap and can provide cover across the park. Very much a young Levi replacement, minus the contested marking. From what I've seen he's a very decent intercept mark though.

It's actually a smart piece of talent identification by the club. Fills a need, won't cost much, has been in the system a while now and may not get much opportunity given the talls the Dogs have and will be bringing in.

Thing is, I don't see him as best 22 for us either so he will have limited opportunities here.

He's mostly played as a defender...only a bit in the ruck and forward last few games cause dogs had no one else with Bruce and Martin injured but honestly he didn't really do much. Dogs couldn't wait to bring a 34 yr old Martin straight back in from injury and drop him.

As a defender he isn't replacing Jones, Weitering or Plowman in our best 22. And as a versatile tall I actually think McDonald is better.

I am concerned I am hearing rumours that we are interested in guys like Jordan Sweet & Darcy Fort, these are coming from clubs that are almost in as bad a position as us with regards to ruck depth, yet these clubs consider these players not good enough to keep on their list and are looking for better... If players are not good enough at these clubs, then they shouldnt be good enough for us.

Haven't heard us be mentioned with either of these. Brisbane have been mentioned by Fort's manager.

Would be very surprised if we had any interest in either .

Maybe so. I do agree his best is far behind him, and his currency will never be higher. Strike while the iron is hot.

Come on man.

His value will never be higher? Firstly it already has been, secondly he played 4 games this year after missing 2 years. Not that I'm advocating we investigate, but do you really think his value won't be higher this time next year if he puts together a full season?

The iron isn't hot. It would be an absurd decision to let Charlie go now after all he has been through. We've been patient, we've done the hard yards, now it's time to reap the benefits of that hard work.

Trade option for Lewis Young ( hypothetical) - assume we get 36 for SPS - 25 & 36 to Dogs = 1420 points - approx pick 15, for their first rounder next year. Maybe they give us back 71 this year.

We could probably get their first this year for that as they will be looking for points for Darcy. Not sure what the logic is for wanting next years first?

We probably wouldn't use 71 this year , as the draft may well be finished by then.

hopefully the draft is less of a raffle next year, and hopefully the Bulldogs drop down the ladder.

Lewis Young is a hail mary selection.
He is worth no more than a pick over 60.
Just a name on a teamsheet that played a few good games in defence. Can we get some perspective on these scraping the bottom of the barrel trades

It has been higher, but will never be higher. Even if he plays all season next year I believe his best is behind him, and he won’t get close to those heights ever again, unfortunately.

I absolutely loved him, was my favourite player so it hurts, but from an insider he has done very very well to even make it back. They believed he wouldn’t ever play AFL again.

Can we draft THIS guy ? Inside mid, bit of mongrel, proven form, loves the contested stuff, could get him cheap

And de-list THIS guy ? Only interested in signing autographs, plays too close to the boundary, bit of a show pony, contract's been renewed too many times.

Going to the couple of games this year, I cringed when my daughter says "Damn our mascot sucks, Dad !!". I tend to agree.
Do you remember the old Blue Hulk like figure we had in the 80s? Needs to return.

That's from circa 1978 I think. I just need to check my steel stubby holder for the date on it. Although, it should be the small writing in the top left.

EDIT: Yup... ~1978 is the copyright date.

Great effort, my stubby holders tend to go walkabouts after about 6 months

If he plays next year and puts in a full season, I'm pretty confident his value will be higher than it is right now, given he's just come back from 2 years on the sidelines.

It's a moot point regardless. We wouldn't be looking to move Charlie on or to "cash in" on him. After working with him to overcome his injuries we'd be looking for him to be an integral part of our push up the ladder.

An insider? Sure.

The club has been strong on him coming back and contributing. So far they've been right. Not sure why anyone would want to throw that away now, it's nonsensical.

As they say in financial markets, past performance is no indicator of future performance....

Except real estate which is still technically a financial market ...
