I have really warmed to this player this year. He is really cool under pressure. He was getting a bath from Milne yesterday and he shut him down beautifully and became a danger player rebounding the ball.

He is still young and learning his caper, but with the likes of Mighty Mick and Archer down there to teach him he seems to be learning fast.

Could not agree more... but will be a midfielder in a few years... blokes that read the ball as good as him always become midfielders...

I think the main part of Troy's 2nd half dominance over the little whinger was that our midfield was getting the ball into our 50.
In the 1st 1/4 and a half Milne had plenty of room to work with and plenty of ball getting down to him.
Makepeace did a deasant job all day i thought because the ball just kept going down there early on and anyone would have had a few goals kicked on them.

Troy will deffinitley be a midfielder, his disposal is probably the best in the team and a move up the ground is inevitable after he has finished his apprentiship.

I totally agree. Again shows the benefit of getting 50 games under your belt. It's a tough thing when you're getting touched up a bit early to stick at your task and work your way back into the contest.

I thought he was terrific yesterday.

Oh definately! The Saints were just pumping it in at will in the second quarter and it made it tough for Makepeace on such a good young player. But Makey was always there and Milne had to kick some pretty magical goals because of Makey's pressure at times.

I like him down back as he provides us with the slick skills that we need when rebounding. There's a touch, a touch, of the Junkyard Dog about him too.

I think that the Skull is very similar to Simon Goodwin of the Crows. Very unassuming, but gets his job done every week. He has been beaten early occassionally by the quicker guys, but he always fight back and usually at least breaks even...

He has copped what i think is a lot of undeserved abuse from some Kangas fans.I rate him highly and think he is know part of the furniture in the senior side.

quite proud to say i have been a makepeace fan all along and although milne kicked 4 goals in the first half, he won the battle at the end of the day!

keep going troy!

i like the boy:cool: :D

and again for those of you that have followed this guys career, you will all have noticed his progressive refinement of his skills.

the only way to tell what a player is gonna do is to check out his career after each milestone. i followed simpson over his career and i think we have another good player in the makings with the skull, i always thought he would come through

Yeah refreshing to read a thread with Makey's name in the title and find that I've got none of the replied posters on ignore.

Troy Makepeace is a rock solid player who deserves his spot in the side. Anyone who thinks otherwise should look again.

Talk of a midfield position.

Makey started in the middle at a couple of centre bounces in the second half. That's what I noticed anyway....Not sure if he went into the middle earlier than that or if he has snuck in there in previous games.

Hmmmmm.

He actually went in following Milne - it wasn't because he was put in there by the coaching panel. But that will come...

He's won me over.

And as we are talking about Makey, I want to know why he doesn't kick out from a behind more often? In the Collingwood game he started as the kick-out specialist and did a good job IMO. Then Kingy and Boomer butt in and it all goes to hell.

Makey should be our kickout specialist.

Not convinced anyone else on the list would have done better on Milne.

I am a huge Troy fan, but Shannon Motlop did keep Milne very quiet last year in Canberra. In fact I'm pretty sure he kept him to 0 goals

Good point. I thought Shannon was unlucky to be dropped the week Denis was putting the wind up the 'big 4' as he was playing ok-well at halfback. Hope he comes up this week, unless his Murray form was attrocious.

Now all that said, Milne appears more consistently damaging this year so Troy's effort may outrank Shannon's from last year.

He's going alright in fact he's making his brother look bad in comparison.

i was getting pretty annoyed with makeys lack of pace and physical presence in the first half. he got pushed off the ball several times as the ball came in with milne doubling back. worked his way back into the game.
i still find it strange that you guys think he had a great game when his opponent kicked 4 against him and could of had more.

Makey left Milne to guard a free Saints player inside 50m who recieved the ball an passed it onto Milne for an easy goal. An unselfish team oriented act on Makeys behalf.

Another goal was a pass lace out with heaps of space for Milne to lead into and no pressure up field. That scenario is difficult for any defender.

Another goal was a low penetrating skidding 70m bullet pass from Jones with the unbeleiveable soccer finish from Milne.

So that leaves only one goal where Makey got beat one on one. But hey, Milne is a freak.
