What are everyone's thoughts on Simmonds? Most teams have him as their 2nd ruckman and I'm sure most are pretty frustrated with him as I am. He is performing quite poorly with an average of 67 and is one of my teams weakest scorers.

Still need to do a little work on my forwards, but I think I'll have to look to replace him sooner rather than later. Could pick up a Jeff White pretty cheaply at the moment who would get probably an extra 30 pts per week on average.

Would need to spend 2 trades to upgrade him though, so it probably isn't worth it at this stage. Maybe a bit of a luxury further down the track if things go well.

What are others doing with him?

Johnny Griffin from the Crows if your after a good cheap 2nd ruckman. I have had him for the last 3-4 weeks after giving Gilmore the heave ho and haven't been disappointed with him since.

Against Melbourne was his first average game in a while (50 points) but considering how cheap he was I 'll let that slide as I had big Coxy as captain which more than made up for it! :D:thumbsu:

I'll keep him, he struggled in the wet this week. But he is still going alright. Maybe Jeff and Sandi might be worth it later in the year but, for now I got other weakness' to sort out. You must have a decent team if he is one of ya worst.

Yeah I think you're right. Ill keep him at this stage as well, but he is definitely on the chopping bloke, to quote the boys from DT Talk.

And my team is fairly decent but not great. Lacks a certain killer punch like an Ablett, Bartel, O' Keefe, Franklin, Riewoldt, Pavlich etc.

I have 20 players averaging over 80, but not enough averaging over 100. So Simmonds is a weak link yes, but forwards more of a concern as you can see by the missing link list above.

At only 196cm, Simmonds relies heavily on his leap, so I wouldn't take too much out of last week - a rare game in the wet where he had very little support in the ruck.

Early in the season he struggled a bit because he takes 5-6 games to get match fit, even with a full pre-season behind him.

I think he's turned the corner form-wise and will be posting some better scores in the last half of the year than he has so far. That's not to say he'll be scoring up there with Cox, Sandilands or White, but he should be ahead of the rest of the pack.

Simmonds has had some OK games, but you get what you pay for. obviously if your a ruckman and your name isn't big cox your are going to struggle in the rain against the reigning premiers. I'll look to upgrade him, but only once I have the rest of the team sorted which may or may not happen.

I don't think he can be kept for the whole year. He has done well for his price but White and Sandilands are scoring much better. I'll be doing Simmonds to White either this week or next week.

I wont be trading him just yet but his performances have been way below par. I was hoping for an 85-90 average after he averaged 95 in 2006. Ill give him the benifit of the doubt due to the conditions on the weekend but he is on notice.

he's doing ok and considering basically everyone has him he won't be costing you matches...
i'll be leaving him for the immediate future, depending on how he goes for the next few weeks and how the rest of my team is looking i may trade him out just before the finals.

I don't think it matters who your second ruck is...as long as you have Cox. The rest of the ruckmen are so up and down, anyone of them could have a ordinary week at any given time.

I basically agree, although I think Sandilands is clearly the second best ruckman and if you can afford the trades and the cash, will significantly outscore Simmonds. However, as far as value for money goes - I think money is better spent on midfielders who tend to be more consistant then premium rucks who are up and down like yoyos.
If i have the cash and the trades left in the finals I'll be doing the upgrade though, but that'd mean the rest of my team would be great because he'll be the last I look to upgrade.

Spot on.
I have them as my 1 & 2, and I haven't been all that disappointed with Simmonds. He'll never be a world-beater, but a 67 average from a bloke I only forked out $230k for isn't the end of the world.

Does get me thinking sometimes how heavily I rely on Cox though. If he was to miss a week, my Rucks would be a train wreck.
I don't care though, I don't rate Rucks at all, am not going to waste precious $ and trades on someone else, when big Cox is the only viable big fella in the comp IMO.

Yep agreed Kramer.

The big test for everyone will be when Cox pulls the pin. This will happen. He is playing injured and will either do a more serious injury or have a proper rest towards the end of the season. Most clubs out of contention will start to get their injury riddled players right for next year within 5-6 rounds.

If you waste trades on your second string ruck be prepared to burn another when Cox pulls out.

I was determined not to have to waste trades in the ruck this year, so far so good but if Cox pulls out to get the foot right then I will be looking around - maybe Sandilands.

God I hope not. Coxy is a freak and is better than all the ruckmen around even on one foot.

I think you're underrating White, who is an excellent mobile ruckman. Replace Sandilands's best score (172) with White's best (112) and the Fremantle ruckman would be averaging less than White. Their worst scores are 54 and 59 respectively.

They are closer than you think.

Agreed 100%.

Apart from the massive game from Sandilands, they are averaging the same.

It goes

Cox

Daylight

White/Sandilands

End of Good Ruckmen ;)

LMFAO! :D:thumbsu:

Where does Jolly fit into this equation? I totally forgot about him, he has been doing ok too. Probably just behind White/Sandilands and then daylight? :p
