Concur here. Spent the last 35 years living like that & it ain’t healthy no matter how you sell it to yourself. Settle earlier & you’ll live longer.

Screw settling earlier, just sleep in more.

Spent the first 30 something years of my life either sleeping maybe 6 hrs at most (mostly a lot less) thanks to starting work at 5am or 6am and just not liking going to bed early and also spending my 20’s partying and my health was completely shot and I’m convinced it will affect my long term health

In my mid 30’s I settled into getting 7 hrs and and I feel way better than ever trying any diet or exercise.

People are probably built differently but getting an extra hr has been amazing for me.

Is this because of children or just how you are?

I've found that even though my kids now sleep all the way through, I still can't get more than about 6.5 hours. Body clock has just gone off course.

I feel since kids I could be a good sleeper, prior to that I've always struggled to fall asleep and struggled to wake up. To get a good night's sleep as a kid, teen, and young adult, I had to be in bed like 12 hours to get 7-8 hours. Now I reckon I fall asleep in under half hour which is progress I guess? But between kids and work now, my hours are restricted.

This thread at present will put you right out for 8 hours.
This thread has contributed to lack of sleep lol, the nights where I've been ready for bed, then PB strolls in half tanked dropping Fleetwood Mac and profanity filled rants and I've been like, maybe I'll stay up and see where this goes.

I've come to realise how important sleep is to everything.

I envy people who either get muscles or lose weight. Not because of their looks and physical improvement, but because I understand now how important sleep is to any sort of body transformation. Without it, you're stuck in neutral, no matter how much work you put in, for example. And those people appear to be getting very healthy sleep.

Roundball crossover!

We are all in a good mood after yesterday so I’m reluctant to post this, but we’ve had discussions here about which premier league club Port currently reflect.
My argument was Tottenham. Today their manager made some statements that really hit home for Port fans.
Yep good ol' Antonio looks like he's definitely not holding back on his way out.

10 minutes of his interview here

I've gone back to bare minimum gardening as the landlord has all his properties mowed every 3 weeks now.

Get the clippers out before routine inspections for a few annoying branches & bushes around the place that's about it.
Yeah, but enough about your personal grooming

Surely people with the barest semblance of empathy can realise that while they may not have difficulties that their experience isn’t the same as others and some people are either time poor, or would simply rather allocate time spent doing things they don’t care for can be spent doing things that either need to be done or are more enjoyable.

My partner hasn’t returned to work, I only have one kid, and my apartment is small so i can manage, but my experience will not be everyone’s and there’s obviously people with other demands / priorities to me. If you can afford to pay a cleaner and go out to a pub / read a book / play golf / Xbox whatever instead tickles your fancy it’s both good for mental health and good for the economy

Like someone who had a child who slept easily can appreciate that not everyone has that experience and may have needed extra help.

I’m simply pointing out that in an era where both partners are increasingly needing / expected to work with the resulting increased demands on time to the old days of one person working in a home having a society that dismisses people paying for help as lazy / waste of money / not real men is outdated claptrap we would be better to do away with.
I don't think you said that.

You said... Those without a cleaner or gardener are doing it tough. And you meant it.

When it comes to people doing it tough, I think that doesn't really rank.

So it turns out when some Collingwood flog on the main board comes up with a PB mock-up guernsey where the stripes are replaced with black dicks, "we can't spare any black dicks, they're all too busy plowing your mother" is not considered by the moderators of this fair website to be an appropriate response.
