Nah scratch that.. Humanoids from the Deep

been looking for turntable upgrades and the whole thing is a minefield. you cant buy anything vintage (at least online) for less than the price of a new player, and any half decent model thats $200 odd RRP is $700 here..

i can't really thrift shop but the op shop places i have been in are still asking hundreds for decks that weren't that great to begin with. where do ya find the cheap shit? or is it not possible anymore?

still kicking myself a FB marketplace deal with a nice 70s Dual turntable, amp and a set of speakers for $150 total... thought i'd think on it overnight and by the morning it was gone.

Expensive interest. There are people that pay more for a cart/stylus than I'd pay for a TT.

I've sold some gear to a family member all I'm currently running is a ATLP120x (knock-off of a technics SL-1200) through a Rotel 10 with Wharfedale diamonds & a sub.. audiophiles would think it's entry level baby stuff, the cart on it brings out detail nice & the rotel with a sub is warm so I'm happy enough until I stumble on quality vintage gear to my liking.

Investigate every single thing about vintage amps & TT's, you can end up with expensive tube replacements, need for recapping & even worse with TT's you could end up with a cart/stylus that isn't replaceable.

yeah i almost grabbed a LP120 (Not the x..) which is up at the moment for $200.. i'm sure it'd be better than my LP60X but it's in Hobart and buying second hand you never know. decent discount off the RRP. it's still up.. i keep going back and forth on whether i should get it. I can get someone to pick it up for me but it might not be for a couple of weeks. $200 isn't exactly big money.. maybe i should do it. help me out

Interesting, I've been thinking about Shudder

i looked at it about a year or two ago and it was all just those absolute trash low budget things that aren't worth watching.

i don't mind a bit of classic 70s 80s trash, but those SyFy type american ones that popped up this century aren't worth the effort.

there was pretty much nothing worth watching at all but maybe its gotten better.

I got mine for trade. TBH I'd keep hunting it's just got some cheap feeling parts, the positives are you can easily do stylus upgrades & play Blind Papa G Johnson 78's.

You will notice a sound upgrade in detail as what you have now probably has a conical stylus.

I'd be patient and look for something better, 200 isn't bad I guess considering what they probably cost new now.

They are also fully manual.

There's such a fine line these days between finding something made with genuine heart and intentions, but, a bit shit, so bad it is good territory, and something made to intentionally be bad, that has no heart, it's b-grade by committee. The latter usually have no effects, gore, or nudity either, because nobody involves gives a shit and is willing to go the extra distance.
