Mad max is such a shit movie, how it eventually did so well is anyones guess. It was very quirky and there was so many "what the **** is going on" moments.

It was almost completely aimless till the last 20min when his wife and kid are run down.

I guess that in itself is charming. It did only habe 350k to work with lol.

The missus and I had a giggle at the scene where the gang chases down that young couple and it just becomes mayhem. It honestly felt like I was watching this:

Side note: chronically referring to movies as fillums is a trait I picked up from the god Magpiespower
I do it too, prefer the sound tbh.

Fury Road was great though

Was there any Barbie discourse here in the pages I didn't read? I thought it was very very funny, like a 5 minute stretch of s**t away from being pretty bad but it somehow just held it all together to be a great time. I did the double on opening day - Oppenheimer into bottomless brunch into Barbie. One of the best cinema days I've had.

Barbie was great. Loved it, farken. The Academy is gonna make sure "Just Ken" gets a best song nom so The Gos sings it live during the ceremony, lol.

Also one of the more memorable movie days I've had, right up there with Flash Gordon, Superman & Superman II double-bill at The Academy and the time my sister and her bf accidentally took 6yo me to a porno at the old Lizbeff drive-in.

Mainly coz we had a 53 minute delay in our session. Kids were running amok, bouncing off the walls. Parents were losing their sh!t trying to control the little bastards. It all went Lord of the Flies pretty quick.

Especially when this campaigner Nana riled up the audience by trying to get free popcorn for everyone because major inconvenience. 'You better not show any friggin' trailers,' one skank glamour MILF warned the stressed out manager. Poor bitch stopped coming in to give us updates from the IT guy coz it got too heated.

"WHERE'S OUR F*CKEN POPCORN!!!???"

The Mad Max slander on this page alone is thundercloud tier crazy...

I thought the original Mad Max really only became popular after Mad Max 2 was a hit.

It had a small cult following, but that doesn't mean it was ever considered a 'good' movie. Most of those Ozploitation films were pure trash, which was part of their appeal.

This conversation reminds me that I've never seen MM3 Beyond Thunderdome.

I did see Fury Road though. Awesome reboot. Loved the B&W version some guy uploaded to YouTube as well.

I've never seen a Mad Max movie.. apart from flicking snippets.. no regrets
Well, I saw it for the first time last night. When you say "snippets", the whole movie is basically this. The storytelling is awful and it's like a bunch of short not even linked videos put together and it's just weird ugly people rolling around on the road making weird noises and pillaging and raping with generally no overarching direction until Max's family gets murdered in the last 20 minutes lol.

It was made for gifs 40 years later

Scene 1) cars going fast down a straight line for 15 minutes
Scene 2) Gang making weird noises, rolling around on the floor before suddenly raping and pillaging then for some reason a big crow fills the screen and caws.
Scene 3) Some sort of fist fight at a cop shop where you can't tell who is who and what the **** they are saying
Scene 4) Some dude has a brake drum thrown through the windshield (?) and gets badly burned and dies
Scene 5) Max sees the burned dude in the hospital and starts slapping his leather gloves on his leather pants for some reason
Scene 6) Max goes on leave
Scene 7) Max still on leave....
Scene 8) Max changes a tyre, while still on leave.
Scene 9) Man loses his hand trying to rape Max's wife, while Max is still on leave.
Scene 10) Max's wife and child get run over while Max is on leave.
Scene 11) Max goes home, yells then drives a car for 20 minutes and runs over some people. Movie abruptly ends.

Literally nothing happens for like 40 minutes as Max is on leave, then its just max running people over and then it finishes.

Mad Max one was the most profitable film of all time until the Blair Witch. It wasn't huge but it did enough business to finance whatever George Miller wanted
