Both my grandparents had issues with alcohol. Both probably shouldn't have drank. But the ugly reality of that situation was, one party would start it verbally and the other party would finish it physically. Both just could not handle alcohol around each other.

Then I had two mostly sober parents, but it wasn't as dysfunction and violence free as it was alcohol free house when I was growing up.

So I grew up thinking alcohol wasn't the problem for people being dicks to one another.

Larry Emdur is taking over the Koch role in the fake arrest ads.. sad

When will this attack on our greatest celebrities end? Who needs to fall prey to their evil schemes before something is done? Rob Brough? Mike Meade? It's sad.

Yeah, I look at the SA government going forward with a Royal Commission into Domestic violence and think recommendation 1 - Raise the cost of booze to be a real luxury. 2 - increase penalties for illegal booze, 3 - increase fines and add jail time for venues who allow patrons to get drunk, 4 - need to present Medicare card on buying booze (drive through or restaurants) where it's scanned and those with alcohol problems (ie. violent) can't buy themselves, with big penalties for buying for any of them.

That's not going to turn any of these dicks into nice people, but removing the inhibitions from these dicks, as alcohol all too often does, to hit women, kids or innocent people full stop, makes the numbers of these crimes much worse.

Can't stop it, it's too deeply embedded in culture/history etc. pricing out doesn't really work because alcohol is cheap to make, home brew kits cost nothing, even a home still isn't much.

Best way to tackle it is improving general health and wellbeing and a generally happier populace. That's not a vote winner though, because it requires changes which aren't possible in election cycles, has to be generational almost. Doesn't mean we can't work towards it.

But dollars to Kenny donuts a lot of "problem drinkers" will have grown up with it etc etc.

If someone's a violent criminal though, maybe magistrates shouldn't use booze as an excuse for them to get a more lenient sentence. Domestic abusers can get stuffed lock em up. same with people assaulting others while they're on the piss. the type that start fights or coward punch people in the street. LAW AND ORDER!

Fiancé and I have her two teenage sisters (15 and 17) living with us while our house is being built and her parents move back to SA.

15 year old has been playing my PS5. Gave my old PS4 to the 17 year old to keep so she has something to play. 15 year old now shitty because she wants one to keep, so fiancé gave her her old PS4 to keep her happy. She assumed she was getting one of our PS5s to keep. I was like absolutely bloody not lol.

I am not used to teenagers.

I think it's worth holding onto old consoles and games if you enjoy them at all because they are making it hard to access them in the coming years. We've seen it with films and TV shows where you think as long as you stay subscribed to seven different services you'll always have access to your favorites, but of course they take them down whenever they please and they're censored and chopped up to boot because everything you love has something 'controversial' that has to be removed. I believe in taking matters into your own hands, whether it's big stuff like growing your own food or little stuff like having your own entertainment on tap, you can't really trust others to provide for you I figure.
