God, we were a pitiful bunch back in those days! We won a few games and then desperately rallied behind a completely unproven coach in the desperate hope of winning a few more! Then we turned on him. I pray we never go back to that culture, that pitiful reactive rashness, that corrosive culture. Get a coach, give him a short time, get angry at losing, wait for the media to rile us up, call for his head, watch the board crumble and repeat. I really do feel sorry for coaches like Geish. He didn't deserve.

Hopefully his son helps contribute to far more success as a part of the club than his Dad did. That family deserves it!

About a year too long.

Coached us to 9th with 12 wins in 98 (how did we manage to miss the 8 with 12 wins?). Gone in 99.

Never should have got the gig in my view.

No AFL background. But a good junior background. I guess one of those really impressive guys who has never had the chance. hope so anyway.

In some sports a lot fo the best coaches etc never played at the top level. Just smart people.

Definitely has done the hard yards in the under 18 and school system so no doubt would have a good grasp of the early traits to look for, the other thing that could be very handy is this bit

We waste our first round picks. Perfect bloke for the job. Trade our firsts pick the eyes out of the non traditional routes. Back in the day Ron would have given us our strike rate in post first round picks, games played and premierships won.

There'd be a heap of guys with similar CVs. So I would reckon that he must have impressed our recruiters when they talked to him. Perhaps he was head and shoulders above others in his understanding and insight. If so, we might have got a cheap very good recruiter.

Shai and Noah were second round picks. I think we have a pretty good record beyond the first round. Jack, Dusty, chimp, Tross, tigger all good first round picks. We love a slider. Reckon Sonsie will be a player

Our first round picks have been poor in recent years. I mentioned guys like Shai and Noah, because they are high risk reward picks.

We did well in 2021, and I hope that continues.

Our later picks have been great. Our early picks have tended to be guys that really require a lot of development. e.g. RCD has a really high ceiling. But he only showed that ability in the last few rounds of the VFL last year. He basically ran out of time when we got the 2 GWS guys. Picking first round-ish players that take that long to show is a problem.

You can always see why we got our first rounders, but typically they have major issues as well.

From memory in the final round Carlton needed to beat us to make the 8 and we beat them by 2 points. Supporters danced like we had won the world cup.
