I'd agree. I'm mainly in Jazz/Blues/Funk territory. With a lot of classical in there too.

I'm mainly metal/rock, generally appreciate anything with good guitar in it so jazz/blues occasionally, and classical sometimes. Can enjoy hip hop and dance sometimes but has to be the right setting I guess.

i reckon if you listen to enough different music you'll find out some stuff you really don't like. I actually love it when people say they like everything, I proceed to play them something they won't ha ha, death metal does the trick, even for some metal fans.

I like rock too of course, I can appreciate softer metals but don't love the hard stuff. I guess that's what people think about Free Jazz when I play it too them.

I'll throw one out there then: most people who claim they like all types of music don't know s**t about music.
i like most types of music. i can find something enjoyable in just about any genre.
do i know shit about music? i know what i like.

All good, nothing wrong with knowing what you like (or don’t like)

I like rock and metal and a few heavier varieties of metal, but I hate, cannot ******* stand, absolutely detest, Metalcore.

I like some metal core but on the whole not my favourite metal genre (hair is the worst obvs)

Love hair metal but let's not digress.

There's some good riffs in Metalcore, but the rhythm section is incredibly uninspired, the vocals are trash, the lyrical themes are even worse, and all the bands and songs sound the ****ing same.

I remember when Trivium went from Metalcore to straight up classic metal, and what an album it was. Then they reverted to type. Disappointing.

I find Dee Snider's tweets about MTV Unplugged highly agreeable.

Lol
Dee Snider hating on MTV Unplugged because it
contributed to the demise of metal in the 90s.
More likely the demise of glam metal came about because it was shithouse.

Is that your actual opinion or did you throw it out there just to gain some discussion?

Either way I totally disagree so it belongs in this thread!!!

Bit of both. Sometimes I think saying I like everything means you don't really know any music so you like it all, sort of a way to sound cool without knowing what's going on. And when I say I don't like all music people tend to think I'm close minded, I feel like I know what I like and don't like though, same as PoopingHindi . I'm aware I'm probably sounding like a snob now btw, it is what it is I guess.

The Crusade was a great album, still spin it occasionally. I saw them on that tour too, they did the BDO, was fun, they were covering Master of Puppets at that time too and it ripped. But yes that was my peak for them too.

You don't agree with his double standard that nobody ever asked, I dunno, Jeff Buckley to pick up a flying V and give us some thrash or doom metal renditions of his material?

I think grunge contributed more to the demise of metal in the 90s more than MTV Unplugged. His point is fair enough I guess, but really he was just unlucky that a trend happened that he wasn't able to participate in. He certainly benefitted from the resurgence of metal in the 2000s anyway, i mean he sort of does a version of metal I guess but he seems to still do big shows, both solo and with Twisted Sister.

He cured some kid's paraplegia. He is doing ok.

I think it's possible to admit that the demise of hair metal isn't to do largely with unplugged whilst still detesting the ethics of what unplugged stands for and being skeptical of bands that partake in it.

I think hair metal (God,I hate that term) was a big contributor to killing hair metal.
Everyone got sick of the acoustic/semi acoustic ballads that everyone was looking to nail to go platinum.
Just need one man, we just need a ballad to sell the album...man :). Its like the Covid virus of music, spread like wildfire, everyone was doing it.

Having said that there was some great all time classic ones that came from that era:

I saw Red - Warrant
Wasted Time/I remember you - Skid Row
Is This Love - Whitesnake

Many others, and also an absolute metric shit ton of dross as well to muddy it all up.
Eh, thats the way it goes.
I was ok with Grunge, just another form of rock to me. I like alot of those bands and still do to this day.
Looking back, its magnitudes better than what we have coming out now , but there is many reasons for that and is another topic entirely.
I need some clouds to yell at...

I agree with that about the ballads, but at the same time, hair metal was starting to get interesting and a lot of those late 80s and early 90s hair bands were pushing the sound and blending more in t metal. Skid Row and Warrant were two of them, Ratt another one. It would have been interesting to see the development play out if grunge didn't nuke it. Even Poison dropped the lipstick and spandex look.

The flip side is, bands like Metallica hiring a hair metal producer and coming back to rock.

Grunge in the middle of it all still. Stinking it up.

I read Bon Jovi did some uncredited writing for Skid Row too on the first album, trivia.

Did they, Bon Jovi ? Didnt know that. All I know is Bon Jovi jammed them big time with a contract where alot of money went into his pocket. Which is kind of understandable, Bon Jovi obviously always struggled to sell albums...
Love the first album,. but Slave to The Grind is I think the most under rated rock album of the era, as well as it did at the time. Man there is some great writing and singing on that album.

Slave to the Grind is definitely one of those albums that puts the metal in hair metal.

Absolutely.

There's the story of the guy from Warrant going to his record label and there is a poster of them in the office.

A few years later he goes back and it's been replaced with a poster of the Alice in Chains Dirt album.
