The biggest mistakes of the Democrats were Biden even deciding to run again in the first place, then taking too long to step aside and once he had Harris not distancing herself from him. Millions of those who voted for Trump range from dislike to hate him, but think Biden did a shit job. Whether that was true or not, those votes were up for grabs if Harris hadn't kept the lines of she wouldn't have done anything differently or disagreed with. There were easy votes in the 'Blue wall' states they are going to lose from pro-Palestinian voters, if she'd said she disagreed with Biden's strong support for Israel. Similarly if she'd said she was worried about some of the inflationary effects of his policies and she argued to be stronger on the border, she could have swayed some of those. Biden and the Democrats would have sucked up that it was bullshit, to get the votes. Loyalty to Biden cost her (and by extension Democrats down the ballot) in a big way.

I can't understand them. If you're not white and you believe Trump will do anything for you, you're nuts. If you're a female ditto. Poor - have no tax on tips, shame about the minimum wage. Go beyond that, and if you are an old style 'Reagan Republican', who believes the US should stand up for democracy around the world and how on earth could you vote for him?

I get there's an alienated group of voters, pining for the 1950's (socially and the US an industrial powerhouse again), but his policies aren't going to do anything for the latter, even if they do the former. That shouldn't be anywhere near enough to get him elected, even before you actually look at what a shit person he is. We aren't even getting a 'He won the electoral college and lost the popular vote' situation. He's going to win that as well.

Whilst the odds are good he'll die of a heart attack or stroke in office, a more calculating Vance as President would hold Trump's base and avoid the blatant foot in mouth utterances of Trump and likely win in 2028. At this point he's odds on to anyway. Vale America, the land of the brave and home of the free.
