Your wish has been granted, the public bar will be open from 2pm, that is enough.

All we need now is Harry Hill to play under another name and we will have a great GF!

A source close to the VAFA HQ Office stated they expected, planned & budgeted for 10,000 through the gate today.

Will try count on the livestream to see how close they get.

If the VAFA wants to continue its 3 week finals format, would it be a good idea if the 1st & 2nd semi finals in the Premier-Premier C was held on the same day in week 1, with the club that finishes 1st & 3rd at the end of the home and away season in their respective sections allowed to host the semi final, with only the preliminary in week 2 and grand finals in the 3rd week to be played at neutral venues?

Many leagues in WA and SA fixture the higher placed club to host finals at their home ground up to the preliminary final.

Some councils actually stipulate that matches must have the tenant club as one of the playing clubs (I believe that some in Victoria do this too) which means that it can be hard for leagues to arrange neutral finals. It would probably make HQ's life easier if they only needed to hunt for grand final venues and lock them in as early as possible (imagine knowing your GF venue in May!). Then in July, HQ can get clubs to liaise with their councils to ensure that their club would be able to host finals in the first couple of weeks if they were fortunate enough to be the higher placed club.

I am sure there are things that will come up in the season review but one thing that needs to be nailed is getting finals venues sorted out much earlier than seems to be the case.

Use Coburg as the example. There seems to be an issue with the EDFL and the VAFA regarding it's use. With Coburg's women involved with the VAFA, the latter needs to get first rights for it's use.

And if we are to use schools, mix it up a bit. Can't just be Whitefriars.

I would have PEGS, St. Bernards and Carey before the road trip to Donvale.

Just have semis at the top clubs ground in the divisions . It's not bagging the girls , but they should play the same length a season as the 3rds , apart from the top couple of grades.

I seem to recall umpiring finals at Old Essendon, St. Bernards, Cheltenham, Mordialloc...

I can see Division 1 and Division 2 grand finals being at Coburg next year given the geographic nature of both divisions.

Box Hill is being redeveloped so it's probably out. Maybe more games at Point Gellibrand?

Port Melbourne was outstanding , but they got stitched up by the AFL

Not just the finals venues, but the dates and what time is the first bounce needs to be looked at as well. The SNFL usually announce their finals series schedule as early as July to give their clubs and supporters more time to plan their weekends come finals.

Easy for them as they are a little comp and only need 2 or 3 venues , no comparison

You would!!! But I’d take the trip to Donvale before going to EP!!!

But understanding ground availability changes, they do need to at least make some commitment to days for each final in advance. You should at least know ahead of time what day you’re playing, not waiting until Tuesday-Wednesday to find out.

I’m sure there’s plenty of players who work weekends, probably a lot who work till 12 on Saturdays, so the sudden 11.40 and 9.20 senior finals would have caught them out!

Why should VAFA Women’s comp get first right on Coburg over EDFL? Not being sexist but just interested. Are you saying the VAFA should just get first rights?
