The doyen of interview and chat show hosts Sir Michael Parkinson has died aged 88. A self confessed cricket tragic Parky probably interviewed more celebs than anyone in TV history.

A good innings from the Yorkshireman. He interviewed them all, but one of my favourite shows was when he had both Gloria Swanson and Dame Edna on together - the golden age of Hollywood superstar didn't quite know what to make of the housewife superstar and when someone explained later to her that it was actually a bloke in drag, she said, "Yes, I though it had big feet."

Did his flipping research and treated (almost) every one he interviewed with respect, grace and dignity. Realised his show was not about him but about them....and never afraid to tackle the controversial issues:

or light up the flame of the funniest:

And he took the Yorkshire accent to its highest ever level - making us all feel as if he was one of us.

The pinnacle of TV interview hosts that will never be reached again.
