Fitzroy great Vic Chanter passed away over the weekend.

Chanter was one of the great full-backs (my Grandfather used to say he was the best he'd seen), the only man to keep John Coleman goaless in a match.

Always sad to see a Roy Boy depart.

That's sad. Vic was one of the greats at Fitzroy. He had a reputation as a very tough competitor. I'm sure he'd have made the opposition forwards earn every goal they got passed him.

Was just viewing your board and saw this thread. Recently added a page about Chanter to DemonWiki as he started his career with us and played in the 1939 Seconds premiership. Most of that is covered in the Full Points Footy article as well but there's a bit more info turned up from the newspapers of the era.
