Pretty strong team, the ruck mix is all wrong though. OHB, Samson and Colina all named means Samson is going to play all season predominantly in the forward line. Next week when Lynch returns there will be another tall forward to try squeeze into an already way too tall VFL team.

Happy to see Faull named after he was a test this week.

Was keen to get a look at Moimoi.

if they reckon ohb and mate are better long term ruck options that ryan id just pay him out and cut him loose. no point keeping him on the list as a forward with like 10 other young forwards already showing as much or more in their first few praccy matches.

I think the logic with Ryan is that the thing keeping him out of the side is his struggles as a forward (not holding marks, lack of follow-up efforts), so they're giving him the time to develop there.

Nank is going to ruck 80% of the game, so Ryan needs to be able to contribute as a forward to justify a spot in the team.

I think it's more the fact that Colina and OHB can't play forward at all, Ryan can.

We should've cut Colina IMO.

The club knew they would hve this excess tall player issue going in. We are carrying 4 mature rucks who are all fit. And about 14-15 KPP on our list - about 3-4 more than most lists. 4 of them are missing this week, Lefau, Lynch, Balta, Young. If they all become available at once, this VFL team will be badly unbalanced and it will effect the performance of the team. We will likely start shedding 1 or 2 of these guys this year, and I would think the club will have their eyes on shedding some more to Taz, potentially in both 2026(bottom end talls) & 2027, 1-2 talented talls in trades.

It should ensure we end up with a strong group of tall players ourselves when our list is re-balanced.

the chances of either ohb or collina actually becoming afl level footballers is infinitesimally small and history has shown you can pick up a decent ruck late in a draft and not have to teach them how to kick a football.

I take it Rioli has a niggle?

Love the fact that they've brought in young VFL listed players like Raso, Toner and Haeata to develop that were probably on our radar had we have had later rookie picks last year.
keeping an eye on frangalis junior too tackles hard and knows where the goals are

I don't think it is quite that remote.

OHB plyed some very encourging games(amongst some he will learn from) last year in his first year of footy at any notable level.

Colina has not yet played a game for premiership points off anything even remotely resembling a fair preparation. He kicked one drop punt about 65m last week. He can run(not as confident about his agility) is extremely tall, and doesn't mind getting involved after a ruck contest. If his body holds up I think there is a fair chance he will surprise people with how good he is. Whether that translates to becoming a first choice AFL ruck, who knows, but I think he will prove a good VFL player at the very least.

Spider Burton and that other more recent supertall Freo ruckman whose name I can't remember both looked as unco as anything but ended up better than average contributors from memory. And Mason Cox.
Still a chance that Colina ends up similar I suppose.

Very tall team, however there is some very quick VFL listed players.
Toner,Haeata,Yassine, Raso, are greyhounds and Johnson , McArthy, and George have big tanks. And the hardness of Street and Garner. The club has done very well to put this list together, well on paper anyway. Probably focused on speed and gut runners on VFL list, given the high percentage of AFL talls playing.
Hoping to get along to this game, really keen to have a look at Faull, Sims and Alger live.

It's going to be an interesting VFL season seeing how they balance up being competitive and trying to win as many games as possible to maintain the appeal of the club to non AFL listed players with the development of the young AFL players that are the keys to the clubs future success.

I'll be very interested in how they look to use Ryan. All summer the talk was that he was looking good as a ruckman and yet with the season starting he appears destined to play as a key forward and playing very little ruck. Either they're not confident in his ability to be a number 1 ruck long term or they're trying to develop another aspect to his game given he has shown glimpses at times playing as a forward especially early on in his career.

As mentioned it is going to be really interesting in a few weeks time when we start getting the likes of Balta Young Lynch Gibcus & Lefau coming back into the mix.

Our next full time ruck is not on our list right now
