Let's put this season in perspective. WA were the best in it all year and they deserve it. We played quite a few kids throughout the year. This was a good year, making the final was a win.

There are things to work on but a great effort all the same.
Correct - a few players (Sutherland and Perry) enhanced their reputation, both young. You're blooding youngsters while contending, won't be far away.
Strong final, kept pushing WA all 4 days.

Victoria did not need to take 20 wickets to win",more bonus points "and a draw Vict.would have won the shield.

Sure, although that is not the way I would want to win.

Easy to say as WA bowled well, but some urgency from Trav who became moribund would have helped.

Our cause was not helped by the Junction Oval before the last game. Hopefully we are planning improvements to the pitch to allow balance between bats, quicks and spinners.

All in all we did not get the chocolates but it was a successful season.

Perhaps if Victoria were in front on bonus points after each teams 1st innings we would have most likely seen a different approach and a declaration in WA 2nd innings.Good point about the game at Junction oval.Hopefully most test players will be available for more shield games next season.Well played WA though.

It’s a gimmick, to win it we had to take 20 wickets on a road prepared by the side that finished on top

You have mis understood what I said.Say after each side had finished their 1st innings and Victoria had more bonus points then WA and the game ended up a draw.Victoria win the shield is my understanding of new rules for shield finals.

No - I understand what you are saying - what I am telling you is that it is a gimmick to try and engineer some sort of fantasy result. In the real world the only way for the Vic’s to guarantee winning was to take 20 wickets

No official announcement but the clubs have gone early, Ash Chandrasinghe (CSM) and Campbell Kellaway (Melb / Aus U19) have rookie contracts.
Fantastic story for Chandrasinghe who started in Premier 4ths, not many kids these days start at the bottom rung
I know little of these but am wrapped to see a kid come from the 4ths to the state squad

Chandrasingh (22 iirc) has been in the premier system since 15/16 and the firsts for the past two years. Not a one day style opening bat but has churned out runs consistently at all levels (incl vic 2nd XI) for the past two years.

Well deserved.

Kellaway (19) is a top order bat who played U19 for Australia at this years U19 World Cup. Had a blistering start to premier ones cricket with two centuries for Melbourne CC before Xmas. Had some games for Vic 2nd XI and got starts in 3 of his 4 innings. Another well deserved reward

Expect to see my man Brodie Symons (Frankston Peninsula) linked to some Vic second XI games next season. Wraps are big on him and Nick Taranto (Tyabb CC > Frankston Peninsula, 24ish).

I reckon he also had a season with Southern Districts in Darwin last year and did very well? They are one of the strong clubs up there, winning 2 of the past 3 flags.
