Watching AFL in Japan and China

I'll be in Japan and China in September and curious as to the best way/ease of watching AFL finals matches over there. I did Google and got some information from the AFL website but it's not really clear or prescriptive.

I have a Kayo account, but I assume that would be accessible at all in those countries. What are my other options?

Last time I went overseas in 2018 Kayo worked with my VPN, it was only Optus Sports that didn't. But obviously that might have changed since then.

VPNs dont tend to work for kayo. Or at least the countries i have been in.

Couldn’t get it to work in Bali in June. It used to work.

used vpn to access kayo in bali last month succesfully

used nordvpn if thats of any material difference

Using roaming was no issue. Was able to access everything in China, even in Urumqi.
