Shocked that Ben Allan and Glendinning Allan aren't related.

I actually like the pick in isolation - i think objectively he is a very good pick 16 as i think he will be a long term player.
With that said, it is slightly hard to stomach because (i) we desperately need a high possession mid to pair with Reid, Hewett, Ginbey who are all low posession high impact, (ii) we had that high possession within our grasp before Clarke shat the bed, (iii) Allan is a pretty freaky combination of power/size/athleticsm but oddly enough, despite all of our issues, this type seems to be one that we are ok for.
I dont see the Dawsom comparision at all. Dawson is a laser 60m kick and that is what sets him apart. I see Allan more like Yeo in that he's a beast tackling and in congestion but his kicking can be abit wayward - partly because he's often so pressured and in there scrapping. It does look like he has the potential to be an amazing defensive mid foil for Reid and Hewett (and ideally Warner), ie, sit at the back of clearance set ups and negate the oppositions best mid whilst at the same time being able to win the ball when needed with his pace.
So all in all I quite like the pick where we got him (especially as we engineered pick 45 also) but its hard not to think what could have been.

Though I am not sure why he was rated so high in general and no one picked him anyways until our pick even though apparently all the other teams had him in their scopes.
Doesn't seem like a steal, I think he fits perfect in that pick bracket of 12-16

Here fam, he actually looks a bit like Judd in this vid. Definitely his best, most impactful performance where you can see him fight through tackles and show his speed and athleticism properly.

Good prospect, and will be a mid, just needs to improve his kicking otherwise is a risk of ending up a defensive only player at AFL level.
One thing I'll say is the bloke is incredibly one sided. Moves heaven to get back into his left foot, makes Priddis seem like Ashton Moir.

Reckon he will be nicely balanced. Doesn’t seem defensively minded on-ball to me at all. Plays on aggressively which is key these days. Was probably played as a defensive mid for Peel because it was a simple role for a kid playing seniors and he had the physicality to cope with it
How long?How long before he's shifted back into to defense to "settle him" and we can put a line through him as a midfielder altogether buoys?
Same as Ginbey? 2 seasons?
Will probably take at least one training session. Don't think we can write him off just yet.

I’m pretty sure they get 3 years but do agree with your sentiment. It’s going to be tough going at the dockers. Time will tell if he is up for the fight I guess.
This makes me feel much better. If he had played u18 all year rather than seniors for peel I think he would have been seen more as a pure mid like the others nearer the top of the draft. Playing seniors pushed him to defence and more limited roles.
He shows a lot more that Ginbey did his his highlights anyway. In terms of footy nous and using his power and athleticism.
