Normally when a favourite player of mine retires, it takes a while for me to find another, but that Nic Nat to Reid handover of the No. 9 was so smooth

heck, imagine peak Nic Nat tapping it down to Reid all game.

That combo would’ve been just unfair. I bet Nic wonders “what if” with respect to the injuries and if he’d still be out there. Damn I miss that dude, he was elite.

I think Reid has shown enough to persist with.

I’d like to see him running bounce the full length of the ground before kicking his goals.

Starting in the middle of the ground, as he did yesterday, is cheating as far as I’m concerned even if it results in goal of the year.

I’ve also noticed he takes a lot of his marks without another player beneath him. This has resulted in him failing to even produce a mark of the year contender this week.

So plenty of room for improvement, but promising signs.

Harley opening up about importance of his trip back home:

In April there’s three of our (family) birthdays. I missed my sister’s and mine too, I got to spend that on my own. It was probably the worst birthday,” Reid told ABC post-game.

“It was good to get back and I felt like I needed to see the family … it was good to connect back there with them.

“Sometimes on your day off you’d love to drive around and see your family but obviously you can’t so it was good to get a weekend home and see the family.

“I’m 19, I’ve never moved out of home, so I don’t know any different without my parents around and my family.”

The other angle often overlooked in how Reid landed at the Eagles is the umpiring in the Essendon game last year. Some bizarre decisions late in that game that secured the win for Essendon, most notably Long being mugged in a marking contest 30 metres out from goal. It’s a beautiful irony that that bullsh#t delivered to us a generational talent, hopefully it’s not lost on the umpires involved…

I think what gets lost a lot of the time is the human element. Harley is 19yrs old, living on the other side of the country. It’s a big adjustment for anyone, let alone someone that now has a huge public profile and attention everywhere he goes, and has his every move scrutinized in national media.

I applaud the club looking after his welfare first and foremost. He’s a young kid who misses his family. We need to show him we’re not robots and that if you need a week off to fill your cup, regroup and get your head right, we’re there for you. This is the stuff that keeps a kid here longer term, until he grows from a kid to a man and has his own family etc.

Hopefully we can get his family over more often so he can spend plenty of time with them inbetween trips to VIC.

Wonder what happened to the plans of bringing Reids family over to live (mum and dad), the sister/or sisters went to Brisbane to live as far as I was aware.

If I remember correctly someone posted it was his folks decision not to do that in the end, because they wanted to give him space.

If true, perhaps that speaks well of the club, as they felt they could trust the environment he was heading to.

Seemed to be heading in that direction at one stage and certainly seems like he’s enjoying his footy over here. Maybe Retiredbattler could shed some light on the Reids heading west and the contract situation?

Over to you RB.

Was waiting at the doctors and decided to try out the reading of another team's board to see their take on Reid. So headed over to Cockburn...

  • he's peaked
  • he's not really that good
  • he'll be gone in 50 games
  • that goal wasn't that good
  • he's a bigger ducker than Ginnivan

Also a few obviously mentally stable people who admitted he's a star and the goal was great.

That was more than enough "Reiding Copium" for me and don't think I'll be doing that anywhere else again.

They’re literally counting down the games….
Only 41 games to go 🤪

Checking out other boards is fun, if you can control the urge to reply to the nuffs scheming on getting him back in 3 years time.

Yeah, there was some desperate scrabbling from Carlton supporters, working out what they'd have to give up for him.

Generally, I find Adelaide is the most sane of the Oppo boards. They have a lot of the same attitudes towards Victoria that we do.

It's funny how people don't get how Trading works... he wont be a Free Agent, he can't just walk out for the biggest offer.

They think he will be at Collingwood on big coin in a couple of years - but it doesn't matter how much money Pies have if they can't trade for him. Pies also have the same salary cap as everyone else. If he ever goes, clubs will have to give up a lot.

But heres hoping its a non-point and he just signs a nice long extension with us, and then wins a couple of Eagles flags. Any personal accolade will then just be the icing on the cake.

I also generally find there is a strong correlation between the amount of 'No Opposition Supporters' thread prefixes and the amount of utter campaigners in the fanbase.

Adelaide board is chill and definitely most like us.

Port and Freo are very similar.

Richmond board is fun just because they’re so deranged, and so unhinged. It’s a mental asylum.

Dogs board is full of angry campaigners

How much better can he actually get? It wont be long until the good old fashioned hard tag is placed on him or he gets double teamed at the stoppage.

Given we cant win a hit out to advantage very often, teams should double him at centre bounces and leave Ginbey free.

The thought of what we could get for him now, let alone in 50+ games (if he wants to leave plis dont) is sickening

Reid’s like copium

Thank you Richmond for unlocking whatever inner seal brought waterman out for all to see.
You don't have to worry about being beaten by a spud because of injuries. He is making all defenders look like spuds.
We're good at working players back into form.
Pity we can't do the same for our own.lol

Needs a kerr level 1-2 from defensive 50 for a propper goal of the year.
That one was great but i love some craft followed by a freakish pocket goal.
Miss you Eddie.
