Harley Reid's primary and secondary positions will be heavily debated.

I think we can all agree that ideally, the primary position would be Mid.

Now, in terms of the secondary position (where he will start), here is my view:

  1. Angry: Reid (HFF) Putting Reid at HFF would trigger me. He would get 15 possessions a game, and those possessions would be dinky kicks in F50. Look at JHF at HFF. Also, it's an endurance-heavy, low-impact position which really doesn't suit Reid.

  1. Content: Reid (FP) I would be content with Reid at FP. He would still get 15 possessions, but they would be high-impact possessions where each one would either result in a score or set up a score.

  1. Over the Moon: Reid (BP/HBF) I will continually advocate for this as his golden secondary position. He played in this position at U17, and he made a name for himself. He has characteristics that make him elite:
    • His highlights show he is elite at intercepting and taking pack marks from the side.
    • He has the ability at BP/HBF to take the game on and fend off from defense to offense.
    • He has a booming 55-60 meter kick (underrated accuracy).
    • He has a good leap, which means he can spoil and mark.
    • When the ball is on the ground, he can win the contest better than anyone
    • Shut down nick Watson
    • Ball will be flying bp 80 percent of games

TL;DR: I will rage at Reid HFF. I will be okay with Reid FP, but I will be over the moon at Reid BP/HBF. My view is that Reid can be a guaranteed elite 300-game defender, but as a FP, it's less certain. As HFF it's dead on arrival

Forget the media throng that’s there because Reid was pick 1

The main difference is the lack of Freo players there to welcome Simpson

Allen, Yeo, Burgiel, Duggan and Maric rolled up to greet our recruits

And Duggan stayed to meet Rawlinson who arrived afterwards from SA

Captaincy race is heating up

And Pav was only there because he was on the same flight 🤣

Done that with the last few drafts of having players waiting at the airport (Maric and Culley) to greet the new recruits. Club has got a lot of things wrong the last few years but at least they have got that right to build a good bond amongst the playing group.

Best thing about it is that it seems to be player driven as well not something that’s been thrust upon them

I definitely get the feeling that the constant wearing of the club colours. Even down to wearing the eagles socks and bright yellow sandles at the photo shoot for the top draftees, is in part him putting on a show to stick it up the media who have been speaking for him all year. That and he genuinely looks excited to be joining the club.

The club marketing department will be absolutely eating it up.

Personally I'm still wearing the Baldivis Brumbies polo Blaine presented me in 2017

Unlike you to hang onto something for years passed it’s use by date

And Pav appeared to hand him a purple backpack with a number on it...a bit underwhelming.

Strike, is there an all-out war that has been declared on Dark Sharks today?
More tense than Munich in here.

Keyser is just a spicy boi.

I like to test the alert he gets whenever i post and see how long it takes him to respond. In this case it was 3 minutes :eyes::heart:

Hope Harley doesn't always depend on the fend-offs and tries to evade would-be-tacklers with his speed more.

He goes the fend off because he can and it looks awesome but he does seem to have the Dusty/De Goey hips that you just can't pin in a tackle. Vibes of De Goey stepping our entire defense early 2018 GF to slot that goal. Frustrating as shit to watch, glad we now have someone who can do that stuff to create something from nothing.

Yeoy's been the closest we've had to it with that pure agility and power but we haven't seen it for a while. Shuey was more a step of pace but he would also need to drop an arm and chop at the tackler to get separation.

Not big on the idea of Reid playing back too often.
Opposition coaches will very early figure out they need to make him accountable to nullify his input and sit qualify forwards on him (De goey, Rachelle, etc).

Won’t be able to do a hell of a lot of attacking when playing against them blokes.

You realise he kicked 130 goals in a season in u15s right!

He has goal sense and a mongrel around the ball, he will do more than ok in the forward line.

His versatility should be exploited as the years progress with the goal of more midfield time as the preseasons take hold.

He has also been coached. Don't underestimate self promotion as a driving motivator. He has the ability to make himself more marketable than most players in the comp. Already has a puma contract and now probably has others lining up. It's in his interests to ensure the eagles brand isn't tarnished while negotiating other brand colabs.

In the U18 match vs WA he was mainly resting deep forward when he wasn’t attending centre bounces. This is exactly how I’d like to see him deployed next year and slowly build up the midfield minutes. He’s a nightmare to match up on when playing deep forward. He would exploit KPDs who don’t have the agility to go with him and he is so quick off the mark. He may not be elite for speed but his power and acceleration off the mark is incredible. For the more nimble types that play on him they are going to struggle with his power and strength in marking contests and also with him getting separation. He put metres on the WA defenders every time on the lead in the U18s. Would have had 5 or 6 if he’s kicked straight whilst playing big midfield minutes. Having Maric or B/J Williams around him as a tall target with ideally Liam Ryan still flying and providing defensive pressure and run down would be the ideal set up. This would free up Oscar to play more of a CHF role with Cripps running all day on the HFF and Hewett etc resting and wrecking havoc on the other flank. If our first choice team can stay on the park this year it’s going to be an exciting year, round 2 vs GWS at Optus will be sold out.

Watching his highlights, it's like every 2nd move is a 'don't argue', with multiple continual fend-offs. (Dusty rarely uses his fend-offs)
Does he get blocked or counter fended-off numerous times?
Is it sustainable...will it set a trend for players?
All will be revealed in time I guess...
