yeo mentioned on his radio interview with 96FM that harley is loving it in perth and hes fit in really well with the group.
he also mentioned that he personally was so happy eagles took reid with pick 1.

i think harley will be around beyond his 1st contract, we just gotta let it play out.

Nice. Feels like he has fit in really well.

Always see him being playful with Shuey, and seems particularly close with Chesser.

I think he quietly loves the attention too.

His manager would be saying to him “if West Coast can get back to being good, and you’re a big part of it, you’ll never have to buy a beer in Perth again, will go down as a legend”.

We need to hold up our end of the bargain as well though.

We need to improve, and show we are on the right track.

Reid either signs a shortish extension with us or leaves on long term mega deal.

He would rightly want to understand the direction of the club, and progress of the rebuild before signing on.

2 year extension on 900K-1m depending on his next 25 games.

If I was Reid I would sign a two year extension on min $1M per year commencing 2027. We could even front load higher.

That is very nice insurance in the event of injury lowering his earnings. And he is guaranteed good money until he is 23 years old, end of 2028. Five years earning AFL wages.

Now if I was Reid's manager I'd be putting in a caveat that if Reid was to ask for a trade it would happen in contract. And if he did request to move the club would not be unreasonable in negotiations.

May as well do that sooner rather than later at the Vic media will just keep speculating and asking. Harley gets great security in earnings and the media stop asking about it......for a time.

Player wins. Club wins. Both back each other to make it work.

If I was Ried, I’d ask for a name change to Reid.

It’s a bit of a code thing. Soccer parents are different to AFL parents that’s all I’ll say 🤣.

I think also the sooner you can teach the kids a little structure in terms of holding position and get them passing the ball the sooner it looks like football rather than a bunch of kids running around in a group chasing a round ball.
yeah u6, especially early on can be summarized as a big scrum.

No need to Simp over him. The 3 year contract kinda takes the pressure off the initial extension a bit. Just let him play footy.

Kick it out till next year, let him just play then present him something next season when he's had some soak time. Right now he can just focus on footy and getting used to being a high profile AFL player in WA.

2025 We'll have a few fresh faces, a younger list and hopefully some more direction, possibly even a new coach by then.

If he leaves after 2026, we'll be compensated for it. No need to get silly.

The club would be derelict if the included clauses requiring club agree to trade in contract or hamstring itself in negotiations.

Clauses themselves aren’t legally enforceable, what is “unreasonable” in a negotiation?

But also, something akin to that would be scrumming the waters and signalling to clubs that he is gettable. It would do the opposite of what you suggest it would do. It would send speculation into overdrive.

And it would be a bad result for the club.

He’d go to top 4 contenter and we’d get 2 later firsts for him

Just a standard ordinary contract with years and money negotiated between parties is all that is required.

Let’s not overcomplicate things.

Link if anyone is keen

Freudian slip by Yeoey, saying he’s glad Harley’s here so he doesn’t have to do all the hard stuff all the time anymore

TK and Gaff listening to Yeoey’s interview

Who said anything about clauses? You over complicating things.

Any negotiation is give and take. And you negotiate in good faith to play the 'long game'.

Parties agree to terms, in good faith. Both benefit with the understanding this good faith will lead to amicable discussions should the player ever looks to move.

It doesn't mean anyone gets shafted later. Or either party gets put in a weaker position.

This is silly.

The only remotely similar thing is Gaff’s 2+4. Which was written IN TO THE CONTRACT, and he was a free agent.

If there’s some handshake understanding word will get around, and clubs will be licking their lips. Player managers and clubs are all in bed together.

Negotiating what might happen if a player chooses to leave while also negotiating a contract to remain with the club is weird and at odds with what the purpose of a contract extension is.

If both parties are happy, deals get done, if not, they don’t.

It will be interesting to see what is offered to Harley.

Personally I think next year it will land on an extension for three year + one? That gives him the opportunity to dabble in RFA/UFA because I think this will reduce to 6 & 8 by then.

And he will probably be circa 750/850k I would have thought....

yeah. also i subscribe to west coast eagles media on podcast app, which the club has gotten better with populating radio interviews from players and coaches during the week.

Which app?

Attended a school holiday footy clinic yesterday with the kids (there were 100’s of kids) - legit 1st question asked was “where is Harley Reid?” He was so good - took the time for photos and autographs and got stuck into the games. He will attract (and save) a lot of memberships - let’s hope we can keep him an Eagle for life.

Vic clubs will be offering $1.3m+ for as many years as he wants. Harley can write his own cheque.

When Harley's not on the screen, all the other characters should be asking "where's Harley?"

Jason Horne-Francis really has spooked everyone here about Harley walking out the door as quick as humanly possible..that bloke was miserable the minute he touched down in Victoria, every picture I see of Harley he's got the biggest smile on his face seemingly enjoying life, his teammates say he's always ready to get involved and get around blokes...if he wants to leave when his time's up then it's our own fault for not giving him the best possible environment for winning.

Vic Country kids are a lot easier to keep happy here.

I reckon every 18 yo this year would be absolutely gagging to be drafted by us to play with Harley.

Additional lure for JHF was wanting to play at the club his step-dad played for

This.

We heard rumours of JhF being unhappy as early as round 3 with North when Noble gave them (and JHF) a huge spray.

Horne-Francis seemed really unhappy with his environment, didn’t make friends, was petulant on field.

On all the evidence we have, Harley seems to be a bloke of good character, has settled in well at the club and is always laughing and smiling.

Harley isn’t JHF and we aren’t North.

Doesn’t mean he’ll stay just for the sake of it, but the two aren’t remotely similar.

Reid would be crazy to sign anything after being here for 5 minutes.

Makes no sense at all for him.

Would like him to sign next year if possible.

$1.3M +

I understand he looks to fulfil every bit of potential but is it wise to just open the cheque book?

It just seems high to me for right now, 18 months from now it could be a bargain...guess we'll wait and see. What is JHF on?
