Anyone? Anyone at all??

We took an interest in him several years ago, came close to rookie listing him in 2016, were going to draft him in 2017 before Geelong jumped in and had met with him and his partner at different times. I also believe he worked with some of our development coaches prior to his breakout 2017 WAFL season

A lot of other clubs, including Fremantle, didn’t have anything to do with him.

He said he’s always been comfortable with West Coast and supported them as a kid before his favourite player (Judd) left and he switched to Carlton

The most frustrating thing about not drafting TK in 2017 is that he hasn't been available to us and ultimately we've had to pay more.

Running a very close 2nd is having to listen to this nonsense narrative that if not for those tender-hearted cats, TK would still be rotting in the WAFL.

His manager even said in an interview the other day that WC have had a 3-4 year association with TK, before and up to when he was drafted. We helped to develop him with the aim to draft him. The only reason TK was on Geelong's radar at all, was because we had been putting serious work into him.

They swooped in and got a steal as is their right, but don't give me this nonsense about how no-one gave him a chance or wanted him before Geelong.

You know what though: when guys like Sydney Stack, Marlion Picket, Tim Kelly etc are being drafted from right under our (and Fremantles) noses from clubs in other states, it begs some serious, serious questions.

Hindsight is a funny thing, but really, we should have nabbed Kelly the year before the cats got him, and probably should have had Liam Ryan on our rookie list the year before too.

Meanwhile, we can somehow think that adding guys like Burrows and England is smart rookie listing

It's arguably almost professional negligence

Late draft picks/rookie lists are made for guys with talent and a few question marks. If you role the dice and lose, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

So with that said, if we don't at least strongly consider rookie listing Jye Bolton no matter how huge his ego is deemed to be, it would beggar belief

Thanks for that and explanations from other posters. But there's still no mention of anything like that from him or the club, is there?

Not trying to create something from nothing, but it does somewhat irk me when players just talk about the go (coming) home factor, and nothing about the club that's just recruited them. No doubt he'll be a good player for us it just doesn't scream "I'm grateful to the club and will repay them with my actions on and off field". Maybe it's just me?

You'll come around when he helps us to a flag in around twelve months time

It’s just you. Watch this

Makes it even more insane that they didn't rookie list him while developing him. Perhaps they offer development to a number of players, would have to be the only reason why you would invest that time and not secure him with a rookie spot.

With respect Jimbojones, sincerely, Kelly seemed very respectful and thankful to our club in his interview IMHO.
'weight off shoulders' of family....great family culture at the club, etc.
Jubilant Simmo face tells me everything is ok.:)
I'm confident it will work out just fine.

Welcome home and welcome to the Eagles.
You got some good experience over east for 2 years so let's make the best of it and have continued success for a few years yet.

Yes we probably paid overs but we didn't loose any young talent, which we currently have a healthy supply of, so drafting young prospects isn't as much of a priority that it sometimes is. This is one of those years where we could afford to loose a few picks so I am happy with what we had to give up.

Lets just get on with it now.

Once again TK and family, welcome.

Tim Kelly himself doesn't seem to bear any ill will to Geelong. There's no need to get offended for him on his behalf.

On top of that - it was his choice to want to play in the AFL. Geelong didn't confiscate his passport and he was free to return to Perth if that's what he really needed to do. He also spoke of needing to go home but refused to speak with Freo - again his choice, but makes me question how much he really needed to be at home.

I love the fact that he's ours now, but from what I've seen, Geelong have handled it about the same way I wish we had if the roles were reversed.

You do realise that the only way to get into the AFL is only through the draft, right? Sure, he could've "not nominated for the draft", but that would mean forgoing his AFL career.

Geelong did the wrong thing last year, make no mistake. His situation was one of extraordinary circumstances, and in that instance, it did require him being in Perth. Here's his comments on how it was for his wife:
"Two of my three boys are autistic. My oldest boy, as soon as we got to Geelong, he was basically diagnosed with that. He's non-verbal, so there's weekly speech therapy sessions, weekly occupational therapy sessions with him.

"Earlier this year we discovered one of my twin boys is also going to be going down the same path and is going to need the exact same treatment.

"The good thing is we got onto it early but, as you can imagine, to manage all that on the other side of the country where you don't have any family support, me being a full-time athlete, I'm giving the Geelong footy club my all, and all my time.

"Caitlin doesn't have anyone around to assist with that. And it's pretty tough."

The two-time Geelong best-and-fairest runner-up, who also came fifth in this year's Brownlow Medal, said he would feel less pressure now he was an Eagle playing back home and surrounded by family.

"You can just imagine how different it would be being home, having family and that around," he said.

"One, it's less pressure on me. I can go to work day in, day out knowing Caitlin has got the support around here and I can just focus on doing what I do best."

I'm not sure if you realise how difficult it can be having children diagnosed with such a condition. Non verbal means it's pretty damn serious, and family can never be replaced in terms of support. Just because he nominated a club, doesn't make his reasoning any less genuine. Geelong did treat him like a commodity.

You're right, I don't understand what it's like in his position but I don't even think that's relevant.

Unfortunately being an adult is about making sacrifices and living with the consequences of your choices. Wanting to be an AFL player means signing up to the draft and seeing out your contract unless the club that takes you agrees to send you home. That's just how it is.

Now if Kelly had said 'this is too hard, we physically cannot be here' and had left to go and live in Perth rather than chase his AFL dream, I am sure Geelong would have understood that. Everybody would have sympathised with that. No one can hold him in Victoria at gunpoint. But many people have to sacrifice or put off their dreams for one reason or another. The option to go home to Perth last year was always available to Kelly if he felt the need to exercise it.

I listened to him talk the other day and it sounds like he has good relationships at Geelong and nothing but good things to say about his time there - other than of course that his family situation makes it prudent for them to go home. I am glad that we got him. I am glad that he and his wife were able to stick it out there - but I just happen to disagree with the notion that Geelong were heartless monsters last year. They did what was best for them, tried to help out Kelly as much as they could (from his own mouth) and Kelly chose the best option that he had too. A lot of our own fans are getting so sanctimonious about this when even Kelly himself doesn't appear to agree.

Bolten with be 28 at the start of next season is he better then Smith or Ah Chee (both 26 next season)?
