Can't agree with the bit where you're happy to favour immediate uplift over future value, we're still rebuilding and are way off genuinely contending. Foregoing a potential Soligo for 3 years of ANB is not how you properly rebuild. You wear the down years to load up with talent that will be around when you're contending. We'll almost certainly going to rise up the ladder next year and contend for finals, but ANB won't be around when we're genuinely contending for a premiership. Happy to have him, but not at the price.

Foregoing a soligo? You mean foregoing a 20% of a Soligo - who in reality wont really impact our team until this year (or next).

We are at the stage where we need to rise up the ladder and get better as a team. We have invested through the draft (we have 7 first round picks 25 or under and 6 2nd round picks 25 and under).

We have a bottom four list in 23/24 with regards to Age/games played. Its time to surround our core of hopefully very talented core (TT, Rachele, Rankine, Dawson, Soligo, Max, Murray, Worrell, Fog, Curtin, Nankervis, Peatling).

We look like needing 5 players at next year's draft and what it looks like we'll be left with is a first and downgraded 3rd. We should have played hardball on ANB and been prepared to walk away. If we'd traded 25 into next year's draft we would have made out like bandits.
If we'd not taken ANB then we would have another list spot to fill and would need the pick for this draft. And it would be pretty shitty to tell ANB we'll take him and then walk away from him. Good luck getting a player to nominate us again in the future if we did that!

If we need 5 picks next year, then we'll just trade some 2026/27 draft capital into the 2025 draft.

The trade: Melbourne trades Alex Neal-Bullen to Adelaide for pick 28

MELBOURNE: C
A second rounder is a solid enough return for a homesick forward. But Neal-Bullen finished third in the club’s best-and-fairest. And in totality over the last two seasons, Melbourne essentially swapped Shane McAdam for Neal-Bullen, with the pick sent in this year’s deal the exact one that was swapped for McAdam.

That isn’t great business.

ADELAIDE: B+
Virtually a direct swap of McAdam for Neal-Bullen is a win. The Crows will happily plant ANB at half-forward and his hard running opens up opportunities for Josh Rachele and Izak Rankine to spend even more time on the ball.

Where does Neal-Bullen sit among the best players in the Crows team? Top five, top seven?

This guy has to be an unbackable favourite to go straight into our leadership group, right? Given the state of our 2024 mob.

The only way I see him missing out is if we decide to trim it to literally 2-3 players total.
Well there is Murphy’s spot for starters and I can’t see how ROB can continue to be a leader given his form. Also is Smith still a leader? That has too change too. Bring it back to 4:

Dawson
Keays
ANB
FOG

I have a feeling they will go with 5. They will cut Murphy, Smith, ROB, Milera.

They will keep Dawson, Keays, FOG, Hinge.

They will add ANB.

People are still underestimating how good this guy will be for us over the next 4-5 years, he’s a genuine gun and has been for the last 4 years. Big game player too. Look at what Freo had to pay for Shai Bolton or Eagles for Baker and then still tell me the club overpaid.

A future 2nd is an absolute steal for Peatling.

From rd 19 of this season through the finals - he was GWS #3 midfielder behind Green/Bedford. He attended more centre bounces than Finn Callaghan, Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelley.

Just a reminder - here are our 2nd round draft picks from the past 10 years - Edwards, Ryan, Soligo, Cook, Berry, Schoenberg, Worrell, O'Connor, Hamill, Wigg. So far 2 out of the 10 have become first choice best 22 players in Soligo/Worrell.

So we are effectively giving up a future 20% chance of landing a best 22 player for a 24 year old with 45 games experience that forced his way into the midfield of a top 4 team to end 2024.
that was just like us trying to convince berry not to ask to be traded. sorry but its true...

Yes crow2crow doesn’t rate peatling and thinks he’s depth at our club.

Ahhh yes the guy who went back and watched the game against Brisbane - the one where he had 1 touch in the backline during the first quarter as the Lions took a 31-2 lead at QTR time. Then he moved to the middle in the 2nd quarter and had the most Clearances, most Centre Clearances, most tackles, 3rd most Inside 50's, 2nd most Contested possessions. All whilst going at 75% DE.

The premiership coach and another top 4 coach both listed him as the best player on the ground.

But old mate says he wasnt that good because his eyes say so and thats backed up by his 83 fantasy points.
