Welcome Welcome to Adelaide: James Peatling - Traded with F3, F4 for F2

Why is there an obsession with growing the game at all costs?

Growth for growth’s sake isn’t always good.

That GWS-Brisbane final in NSW had less atmosphere than a tin-pot country footy game.

It was like when Seinfeld moved into a more coveted timeslot, and Larry David said “If they weren’t watching before, I don’t want them watching now!”

A lot of competition from 2 x rugby codes, soccer and other sports here

Seems like if you aren't prepared to spend some time and money on the sport at a grassroots level, you run the risk of falling behind

If Qld keeps producing talent at the same rate, it won't be long before we start see players drafted from there asking for trades home

Bigger pool of talent to draw from surely over time takes away from the argument that more teams in the competition have diluted the talent

I'd like to know how many of the two Queensland Club's Academy kids had Vic/SA parents or grandparents especially the Suns, Gold Coast seems to attract a lot of older folk looking for a sea change?

It was going pretty well for a while there but there has been two major issues.

Covid set us back a lot compared to other clubs in engagement and crowd numbers and general interest in the code...you can say that it hit every team equally but most clubs aren't in their initial growth incline so it hit us hard and didn't allow us to consolidate after our first sustained finals run.

More importantly though is that the NRL has seriously pulled their finger out over the last 5 years. The league and it's outreach has exploded under V'landys. It's a dense market here and there's different leagues turning head left and right.

Semi final crowd was awesome to be honest. It wasn't the sell out with had in round 0 but the passion and feel at the ground was incredible. It won't take as long as people think.

As far as youth and academy...it's been tough I think. Briggs and Peatling were our true Western Sydney products. I constantly hear parents having issues with the way the actual leagues here are run and distance to travel and whatnot. It's pretty hard to compete with multiple NRL clubs, basketball, soccer and so on.

I believe its trending in the right direction.
We aren't the Swans. Their academy is huge and gets way more families that are from the East/North and AFL is pretty prominent there.
Western Sydney is ****ing huge and it's going to be tough to crack. But if they do the rewards will be through the roof.
The story of 2024 Joey Delena makes me hopeful

From a family of 10 in western Sydney of Papau New Guinea heritage , inspiring his school mates and club mates and younger siblings and friends

Pretty sure the giants might take him as a rookie

These are the stories that show me how it’s all worth it

You were there were ya?

There is also a culture in Sydney of not really going to the games. I know that sounds odd but look at NRL game attendants.

I know heaps of NRL fans here who just watch on TV and support like that.

Our numbers will build, we will continue to unearth new talent. I'll enjoy the journey.

Absolutely true.

Got a feeling the guys running the program including the coaches need to be improved

Better facilities and a home base is good
Nicks might be looking for a job by then.

Huh?
Imagine ignoring all those potentially top level players.
Yeah, cos there are loads aren't there. Last off season there was exactly 1 home grown NSW player from outside the Riverina drafted, Caiden Cleary. As I said, 42 years the Swans have been there in Sydney.

Geez, Peatling for a F3 would be daylight robbery

But I suspect it’ll be negotiated down to a F2. We might even be getting a sweetener
Looks like we’ll shut the laptop and walk out for a straight F2

Honestly wondering if there was a typo in Ralph's tweet. F2 sounds about right? And I'm not really sure why the state GWS's draft hand would alter their valuation of Peatling. Maybe we're going to include our FF and trade back into the draft.

Hmm, I've been wondering about that F2 for Peatling. If we trade that out it means we cant trade out F1, well, unless we first traded the F1 for a split late F1 and F2 combo. If we can't / don't trade F1, it means Dodson is out pretty much and that's what I had assumed must be the clubs position, which I was sad about, until seeing that tweet above. Even a late F1 meant Dodson was out. These moves mean Dodson still likely on the cards, which I am happy about. Wonder how we're gonna satisfy GWS but maybe we facilitate some moves for them on draft night or something like that.

We don't need to trade our future 1st.

Better business is to keep our future 1st & use our future 2nd.

We don't need another pick this year as we don't have list spots.

Even if we did want to trade back in on draft night, we could trade back in a F2nd for F1st & whatever else we are trying not to do without any spare list spots.
