Welsh isn't that raw. It's even in his highlights, the kid can be quite aggressive on the defensive side of things.

The big things are a) what does being AFL fit do to Welsh? and b) Do we even want a third tall in the post-Tex world?
I would say it'll do a lot to him.

2nd point is a very good one. We've been able to get away with it because we've had 3 good talls for the best part of a decade. But now..... I'd be spending a bit of time during the pre season discovering and working on alternatives

Boys are already training.

Who said Welsh had let himself go ? .....yeah a bit of puppy fat, that all teenagers have ...but he'll trim up over this PS

His already noted speed will only improve with improved fitness .....and we know Tyler's hands are very good ....and no problems in the IQ dept either

His performance and times at the Combine were alarmingly lower than previous times recorded.

Looks fitter in that photo than Jake Stringer did in his recent Giants photo!

Danielle Laidley: Fat jokes aimed at Sean Darcy by Fremantle Dockers fans are deplorable and cross the line

Sean lead the AFL players in fighting against having weights disclosed ... 🤣

I have to say recent online commentary about Sean Darcy’s bodyweight is downright deplorable.

In response to another post that mentioned Darcy was not expected to enter main training until after Christmas as he recovers from knee surgery, the same user wrote: “Sean Puffy Darcy should maybe sit out Christmas lunch too.”

There definitely was some overreaction.

There was 0% chance he was going to end up anywhere else.
Well if he went as early as speculated last year, we would have not landed all the players we did...

Wasn't in the clubs best interests for him to go to high as may have lost one of our 3rd rounders.

Reckon he will end up being very good value for money pick.

So we asked him to essentially waste a year of development to save a third round pick?

I don't buy it for a second.

Where did I say we asked him to waste a year?
You agreed with Carmo who suggested that he pulled back to go down the draft order.

First of all, no way he does that without telling/asking us. Then he would risk us losing interest altogether.

Second, his form was weakest earlier in the year, so that would imply we asked him to "pull back" for the entire season? So in his draft year, playing against men, we ask him not to push hard? That would cost him heaps of development opportunities.

All to avoid getting an early bid in a system which is already comically tilted in favour of the club matching the bid?

It simply would not happen.

He was predicted to be a top 10 pick at some stage, and we were predicted to make finals.

Telling Welsh to tank early in the season would have been highly beneficial to us. Don't need to trade away our first (predicted to be in the 11-18 range) so it isn't absorbed in the bid. We then end up with a first rounder to use AND Welsh, instead of only Welsh

We probably didn't need to do that when we finished 15th though

Of course not. What I think happened was we took him away from his natural game to work on specific areas. This can take some time for junior players. He may also not have worked as hard on his fitness this year but I doubt any of it was deliberate. The combine though was deliberate. He knew he was going to be a crow. Why work harder then he needs to.
