Got to laugh.
He hasn't played a game and the he's going to make /no he isn't, has started at record speed.

Let Denver (and Calsher) be a very recent cautionary tale of going too early.
Let the kid play. Cross your fingers. Then make a move.

Na, ignore me.
He's a poor mans Jack Viney, Brad Sewell or even worse.....
Rhys Matherson!
(Joking)

How is Calsher a cautionary tale?

I don’t think anyone in here has said he isn’t going to make it.

Just that like most later picks he’s going to need to put in a lot of work and improve if he wants to play a lot of games in his first year.

Dear is the exception not the rule and even that came about due to our lack of key forwards at the time.

Some people just seem to hate to give credit where it is due if it goes against their opinion!

Dear did amazingly! Here’s hoping he has a ripper 2025.

Anderson has something special, if he wants AFL games in 2025 it is with in his capacity and reach to make it happen.

Our best 22 matches it with the best, our depth not yet!

Squads win premierships not your best 22.

What is it?

In the clips I have seen, Anderson's special qualities are energy and appetite for the contest. Not enough on their own, but he makes the players around him look almost languid. If he can develop his basic skills to AFL level, his energy and appetite will have him knocking the door down.
Okay.

If Anderson’s “appetite for the contest” is sufficient for him to leapfrog all those other mature/alternative midfield options I’ve listed, then frankly I think that’s an indictment on our current list.

Would suggest none of them are capable of the same appetite for the contest despite their time at the club and superior “basic skills”.

Anyhow, time will tell.

Not suggesting that the others lack appetite - just that Cody has it at another level. Also not suggesting appetite alone will get him a spot. You asked what is special about him and that together with energy is your answer. As you say, time will tell.

Cody looks a fantastic acquisition, but those putting him in best 23 …
I would love to see the side you would select to see which players you are omitting for him.
Can see him getting games mid year as a few injuries and players are managed (‘general soreness’).

Saw some footage of Cody a while back but after watching him again wow didn’t realise his pace that goes with his canon ball attitude! Sam will take him under his wing and teach him a few midfield tricks like he has with Newk/Worps and co …… plenty to work with here.

Do you think he’ll get many senior games this season ? 😉

I’m in the no camp. For the positions he plays l haven’t seen the same level of competition for spots …….. since 10 years ago!

Having said this Cody looks like a really nice prospect for the future 👍
Sorry I really should’ve typed it in orange.
Was taking the piss (not out of you)

Not an indictment on our list. This kid just possesses a rare trait that not many players can emulate at a level that's sustainable.
We don't know if he can emulate it at a level that's sustainable. He hasn't played a game for us yet.

I know that recruiters aren't perfect but at his size and with his athletic talents, if it was truly such a rare and special trait he would have been snapped up much earlier.

I wish the kid all the best, but elevating players to this level before we've even seen them play a game is a massive disservice - we have a number of posters who let their expectations turn to bitterness, and then that bitterness comes out as pretty unpleasant commentary in the long run.

Someone at AFL level is going to try and goose step him....and he'll give them the Hannebury Mk.II.

Curious the only forward time in those highlights was with Box Hill - suggestion of good body work in the air (certainly for his size). He has a run-down gear that he didn't use offensively in the highlights, most of which were showcasing his defensive rundowns, or a bigger-bodied player winning the groundball and using quick hands clearing congestion.

I’m going the early crow too, I’m not sure about 10 games in ‘25 but I reckon he could be the kind of player that comes in and stays. There are some extremely handy traits in the highlight package, very quick, his tackles hold and he rag dolls people, strong all over, looks to have some smarts and makes pretty good decisions, willingness to kick on both feet, overhead marking, knows where the goals are.

I don’t think his disposal is terrible either, a couple of times his team mates got worked under the ball and were outplayed, in any case, who better to help improve your kicking than the current head coach at Hawthorn? We are building a formidable and ferocious team.

I think once the opposition are too scared to come out of the rooms his disposal won’t matter anyway.

He’s quite literally never played a game, so how is he not getting credit where it’s due?

If he knocks it out of the park next year he’ll get the recognition.
