There were comments on this forum pre-season that he was a list clogger with no potential to develop!!
That, despite the fact he was new to the game and a rugby and Gaelic schoolboy champion - and as quick as all hell.

Yeah rightšŸ˜
He has pretty much gone from whipping boy to cult hero in the space of 2 weeks ...

Pretty incredible 180 from so many folks.

Had he kicked that set shot after The Tackle, there'd be even more.

He'll kick it next time I'll bet, the maturity and belief are there.

...and got penalised..."too rough"

One of those most baffling calls in umpiring history.

I think Hodge mentioned getting called for being 'just too rough, generally' earlier on in his career.

I see a real likeness in the emerging Connor Smash and Hodge. He even had the swagger going at times on Sunday.

We're building nicely into this season. Seems like he team is already coming together and getting close to being on the same page.

Some of those ballistic transitions seemed like little aftershocks from the Seamus give and go goal from last week. I bet we start go get very good at it by the end of the year, it looks to be part of this team's DNA.

Nash living up to the belief a lot of us have had in him from very early on is like getting a new player, I wonder where his actual ceiling is? Seems like it could be a peg or two higher again.

He was initially scouted while playing gaelic football for his school. He did play representative rugby as well. Won a county gaelic football championship with his club (their first ever) just before leaving for Hawthorn. I'd imagine he was recruited as a GAA player who was also pretty good at rugby, which was a nice bonus.

Didnā€™t he play Hurling as well.

By the 2nd half of the year the rest of the footy world will work it out. This guy is a genuine player now - he is winning the ball & more importantly learnin to use his size to create uncertainty in the opposition, as well as time and space for our mids.

I never thought he would have the smarts to find the ball enough to make it as a mid. Not many blokes work out how to get it 20+ times (as he seems to have) and then lose that ability. Super important for this next build.

Worse kicks than Nashy have won brownlows. In fact heā€™s quite good.
Nash is a beautiful kick. The ball goes exactly where he wants. It's just up until more recently he didn't always know where he should want it to go.

He is a good kick except in a set shot in front of goal. Another reason why he was always going to struggle as a forward

I don't think it's been mentioned anywhere yet but one thing I noticed yesterday is that up until half time Nash I felt really played that blocking midfielder role really well yesterday. Like most of the team he fell away after half time but you could really see him protecting guys like Day and Newk so they could get free. Also for him to take that hit to the head and get cut open and then play on shows the toughness of the lad. I'm just disappointed that I couldn't come here and write this after a much better 4 quarter performance because I felt Conor was a huge part of our positive 1st half.
This post is looking pretty bloody good right now! Kudos Bugs for seeing and posting it.

I loved Nashā€™s game. I have not gone back and watched the game to see who played on, but he may well have been playing on Dawson for much of the game. If that was the case, he subdued a current Brownlow favourite (5th in some circles) and was as damaging as Dawson on offence. That is something to crow about.

IF Nash primarily played on Dawson, then McGinness has competition for the tagger position.

Does anyone know if Nash went to Dawson Or if it was a team effort to limited Dawsonā€™s game?

All of that saidā€¦ we all know that 2 excellent games does not maketh the footballer. But if he tames Petracca (irrespective of the result) then we may have The Man!

Needs to work on his goal kicking a player that plays midfield and is his size will make a mismatch if he can push forward could he become our Roughy in this rebuild Pre achilles.
