Still hasn't sunk in that we got him. Have been enamoured with him for years due to his SC/DT ability and to have him in our colours is surreal.

Still has a fair bit of room to improve too I think. Not sure who he could turn out like but there's some Dane Swan in there and maybe a little Lenny Hayes.

So probably neutral on the dickhead meter, but elite in the football stakes.

Pretty cool that JOM has connections with JOR and Titch.

Swans are quick to call him "fifth-in-line". Didn't look that way on GF day (unlike a lot of their players who go missing when it counts - apart from ex Hawthorn players....)

Yeah but on the other side, clubs put a lot more work into Kennedy, Parker and Hanners, so TOM was always going to get an easier ride.

How the fek does Jack escape without criticism though and he's captain FFS !!!

Because his mummy doesn't love him so they all have to be nice to him

No use polling votes in h&a if you disappear in finals.

Mitchell is easily their second best mid. Every job they gave him, whether it was tagging, or clearance work he smashed it, & smashed most when it mattered most

Playing style he'd be closest to Matt Priddis of the Eagles

Oh, boyz, you're killing me. I really, really, really hope our midfield turns into a footy-slaying bloodbath. The centre square will be like the rave party scene from Blade, a slaughter house.

Two, maybe three, years from now I predict all opposition teams will be asking for special dispensation to wear brown shorts when they play the Hawks.

Mitchell, like Neale, is the type of player that will thrive regardless of whether the team is strong or crap. They will always rack up their possessions.

To get the best out of his talents though we will need the outside and receiving players to step-up and contribute.

Whether or not he was 4-17th in line at the COLA's, this guy is a massive upgrade on Lewis circa 2015-16

Agree, I loved Lewis, he was a star player for us for a long time.

But he was getting treated like a witches hat by some players, despite playing a blinder again here and there even this season. Watching younger, quicker players run rings around him when he was flat footed was tough to watch.

Shattered Jordan has gone, but Mitchell is an upgrade for sure.

He'll do well at Melbourne has they have the players to mask his weaknesses

I'm one Swans supporter who isn't particularly sad to lose Tom Mitchell. There was good reason for Horse keeping him in the NEAFL for so long. The Swans have invested heavily in him.

If you're expecting him to lead in the midfield you'll have to wait. He has long benefitted from having guys like Kennedy, Parker and Jack do the real heavy lifting while he's still very much a work in progress and may not live up to the hype.

Positives :
Good inside mid with potential
He could play as a small forward as he's a quick kick for goal but lacks the speed to put pressure on defenders.
Good at getting his hands on the ball in a pack. Quick hands. Quick reactions
Gets himself front & centre.
Hard to tackle and usually gets his hands free.
Good tackle if he can catch a player (player is not running)
Can negate another inside mid.

Negatives
Not a good ball user. The high possession count masks the fact that his disposals often go to our opponents, a stationary teammate or at best a 50:50 contest. Too often it's 'hot potato, pass it on' with Tom.
Sometimes wrestles his own team mates for the ball.
His kicking is shite. Inaccurate, up and under and his entries inside 50 mostly random.
He can't take a contested mark.
He doesn't chase
He can't run.
Performs best when the team is on fire. The 2016 final series was the first where he had a decent impact but he still went missing in the first quarter of the GF.

Whether Tom fulfills his much-vaunted potential with the Hawks, who knows ? Fixing his disposal would be a big win, particularly his kicking. Hawks have a reputation for accurate disposal so maybe it will rub off. Good luck with him.

For the Swans it's no big loss. We have excellent stocks of inside mids, most notably Kennedy. Perhaps one day we too will have a dynasty of Kennedys
