I’d be interested to see whether new coaching staff and a functional game plan can get something out of him, but realistically he should become depth in favour of developing younger KPFs.

The way the narrative played out is telling as well.

Timeline basically went like this (from memory)

——————

Port - wants esava

General afl fans - why?

Port - offers pick 33 (from memory)

General afl Fans - hahaha that’s overpaying

Geelong - turns it down

General afl fans - lol wtf

General afl fans - ah well he’s worth less next year ooc

————

Next year

Port - wants esava again

General afl fans - why?

Geelong - 1st round pick thanks

General afl fans - hahahahha these guys are mental

Port - splits their first round pick so they can trade pick 25 for an ooc fringe player

General afl fans - wtf?😳

The whole thing was mental from start to finish.

Anyone who thought this was a smart trade should be out of a position of decision making at the club. This bloke is absolute dross and we are now stuck trying to find a position for him on the field week in week out with the unnecessary salary we gave to him. Blind Freddie could see he was worth a late third rounder at best and as usual we got bent over. He was out of contract?!

You know you're broken when you're leaking down back and get this guy to plug a hole and then pull him away from there to do nothing in the forward line and start celebrating that he's " getting the ball to ground" like Charlie does
I gave Esava a chance for majority of the year but, unfortunately I’ve also come to the realisation that he is like eating a dodgy takeaway curry - shit at both ends.

I cannot believe that Port were THAT desperate to add him to their key defensive stocks and demonstrated he has no footy IQ to be a key defender; always leaving his man to attempt to attempt to mark in packs, lack of awareness in the goal line against Melbourne, bad kicking which has led to costly turnovers etc.

When it was clear that it wasn't working, they moved him up forward for one goodish game. Otherwise, he has been a hack. Another 4 years of this nonsense. If you have been in the system for 8 years and still haven't developed the footy nuance to play AFL, maybe AFL isn't the right sport.

Port would have been better drafting a mature age recruit from the second-tier competitions as a tall defender.
