An athletic wingman from Claremont who has been likened to Gaff by Peter Sumich.

AFL Draft Central Profile:
Callan England is a very handy prospect who is likely to be available late in the National Draft. He is very skinny and is predominantly outside, but he has all the tools to be a damaging mover on a wing or from half-back. He makes few mistakes and is composed and likely toe be a player who attracts interest from a range of clubs in the draft. His great combination of skill, speed and agility will undoubtedly be attractive to recruiters and his huge upside will play a part in where he is drafted. Expect him to be good value late.

Good use of the rookie list a talented player who only knock on him was if he was big enough.
Has speed and is a clever player.
Initially ( earlier in the year ) I was worried that his foot skills were a bit too untidy and that would prevent him from making an AFL list.
To his credit the longer the season went the better his disposal got. He was one of those players that stepped up at the Championships and then pushed on further with his game once he returned to Claremont.

Happy to give him a go and add him to the list.

Not afraid to crack in and win the hard ball and then has the skills to back it up on the outside. I think I'm in love.

Where does it say he's not afraid to go in and win the hard ball it says he's an outside player like gaff. I assume this means he doesn't go on and get the ball which is what our midfield doesn't need as we have enough of this type

I like this pick. England can football.

Gaff is the the most outside player in the league. Toumpas and Aish are the only two recent draftees to have similar contested possession numbers to Gaff and neither of them have excelled. England is like none of them, he has rotated through the center square consistently at Colts and National level and is much more natural stoppage player than Gaff.

I know callan is skinny but i think he will/can be one of those nugget type players. He's got pretty powerful looking legs (probably from his athletic days) and i think thats pretty important for footy as well as most key position and Inside players having very strong legs. Hopefully he spends time developing his inside game at EP.

TBH I reckon he looks like a dud pick up.

Too small, flimsy, doesn't look like he uses his pace enough, seems like he has really crappy ball handling skills too.

Would have rathered we went a different player.

He did sprint away with ball pretty quickly at one point (at 1:37), but strangely he handpassed it as soon he got close to forward 50.

Didn't think that was strange at all....he looks a great decision maker in that video. Doesn't miss one target (I know its only a highlights vid but alot of the other draftees highlights show some shocking kicking)

The way he so easily accelerates away from everyone else is that clip is pretty impressive also.

His inside work looked assured. Good vision, able to side step a few tacklers and hit a target. Would have been nice to see a few bigger clearing handballs but perhaps the options weren't there. Looks to have a decent kick if not spectacular. Worth giving him a go for 3rd rookie pick I reckon.

so much for being a run and carry player, all his highlights showed him disposing the ball ASAP.

Thats the trouble with only having watched as 3 minute highlights package.

I have watched him in full games and he can indeed run and carry, he actually set up a couple of goals at the Championships that very way, but they can only fit so much into a short highlights reel.

Sumich was his Championships Coach and speaks highly of him and specifically mentions his Gaff like run and carry abilities.

So not all gloom and doom kerr87 just be a bit patient and watch a bit more of him live before writing him off.

Watched this kids last 3-4 games of the year, and believe we have got an absolute steal with our last pick in the rookie draft. Would of been extremely happy grabbing him with one of our later picks in the main draft. This kid can play footy. Makes time, has speed, gets his hands on the footy and can hit a target. Wanted him over Banfield... but also wanted Banfield.

Fair enough, then why didn’t they select some better highlight?

They rarely have highlights of players on their own as the try to maximise the footage to where multiple players are involved , if you watch enough of these clips you see some common footage / overlap where two or three players are involved.

Unless the kid is a top ranked 10 player you hardly ever get to view single efforts of burst out in the open , Petrecelle is an exception and that’s because he was the fastest in his cohort.
