Ah football, its whats good. And this week its even gooder, as generational rivals West Coast Eagles and Gold Coast Suns face off to once again decide who among us is worthy of playing finals football. Since time immemorial, this has been the way of things. And in 2022 it is the way of things still.

A Storied History:

Unknown-1.jpeg TM0471_A_Mens_Clash_Guernsey_-_Front-RESIZED1000x1000__32196.1646906223.png
Originally conceived of by the corporate fat cats at Lathlain park and one truly evil Andrew Demitriu, the Gold Coast Suns began life as a spin off franchise and football themed holiday destination for long suffering "in the wings" members unable to purchase season tickets to watch their beloved West Coast Eagles on the hallowed turf of Subiaco Oval. It was, in fact, only the blackmailing of West Coat board members that could in those days guarantee newcomers to the club a regular spot in the stands- or on the field for that matter but thats a story for another day.

Once the deal with the devil was made it fell upon the shoulders of two men to make this audacious plan work. Just as they had once shared captaining duties of an all conquering Eagles juggernaut, fate would dictate that John Worsfold and Guy McKenna would lead the sister clubs- this time from their respective chairs in the coaches box. And what success they had. A lifetimes of football memories. Memories we are all fond of. Inspired tales of the twin dynasties, that reached such dizzying heights even award winning Amazon documentaries fail to quite do the thing justice. You really had to be there I guess.

But that was then, this is now. Today its once more former team-mates [@Adam25 and @MountainsDew] sitting in those chairs in those coaches boxes. But legendary 'Coast hero's they are not.

Bitter rivals though, they most certainly are. Ever since Stewie Dew rocked up to Carko's 2011 Hawthorn preseason mixer 20 kegs overweight and "accidentally" ate the last apricot danish before Simmo had even parked his car... well, its been on between these two. To say there is no love lost is putting it mildly. And after losing critical matches to Dews emerging Suns in each of the past 6 seasons, costing us everthing from lowly finals berths to 2nd and 3rd Premierships along the way, it's finally time for the spoiled to become the spoilers. As in 2022, once more the Suns look to climb the mountain and taste the ultimate success. Again.

But not if we can help it!! Right lads!? Who's with me?!

The Ground:

This game will manifest itself at 11:11 am banana time this Sunday next at Metricon Statium, Queensland Australia. Honestly unless you happen to need to play there for work and the team bus has broken down there is no reason for anyone to know where that is. Its easy to pick out on the tv coverage though due to the obnoxious hue of the empty seats and lack of any discernible infrastructure beyond the boundary fences used to keep players a safe distance from the bull shark infested canals that littler the north Tweed Heads region.

Key Match ups:

Zac Langdon (c) v Matt Rowell

LANGDON-Zac-to-WCE_16x9.jpg + .jpeg Unknown-3.jpeg

Fresh after revelations he's signed on until 2025, Langdon returns to captain his Eagles after building a solid foundation in the WAFL. While Rowell has been checks notes tearing it up all season. Just kidding I'm not doing this from notes and didn't check, has Rowell been playing? Anyway they are unlikely to match up on each other in any case I just wanted to give the top billed stars of each club an obligatory mention. If you insist on a matchup here, Jai Culley has expressed an interest in posting a double digit tackle count on the soulless ginger number 18, which works for me. Assuming he's playing because...

Nic Naitanui, Willie Rioli, Elliot Yeo v ... [insert likely opponents here]

All returning from injury this week, I would not want to be the one playing in any of these guys if I was lining up for the Suns. Not for the first quarter and a half anyway.

Campbell Chesser vs Castore Inc.

Hopefully they can find him a jumper that fits as Chesser was cleared to return to running this week. You heard it here first but Simmo is said to be very keen to get some matches into our highly rated first round draft pick, and our strength and conditioning department has already signed off on it so we could have another debutant on our hands here folks. Thrilled for the young fella and can't wait to see whats he's got.

Josh Kennedy vs The 800 club.

With the end of the line fast approaching for our Bearded God and greatest ever forward/player JKK is, amazingly, a sneaky chance here. Still moving like a 21 year old, and known to kick monster bags against the Suns in the past, the big eight double oh looms as one of the feel good stories of the season for a West Coast support base hell bent on extracting every silver lining from a year in transition. Get behind him boys and soak up these last precious moments. I think I speak for us all when I say, its been an absolute honour Sir.

Prediction:

Danger game here for the Suns. I think it will be a fast paced affair in which JK goes close to setting another club record but the Suns will also score heavily,

West Coast by 1 pick 1.

Who the heck eats an apricot danish

Look, all you need to know is that in his prime Stewie Dew wouldn't be opposed to eating a banana danish with the skin still on. What matters here is that there was a time before crispy creme and other abominations when the apricot danish was an enjoyable treat and a staple in the Adam Simpson diet. As head assistant Clarko used to let Simmo dictate pastry policy at Hawthorn and Dew was bang out of line.

No way. The apple danish was still miles ahead of the apricot version. …. But yea stewy would settle for the lesser danish im sure…. Oh now I’ve gone all Seinfeld..

Hey guys any word of who you flew over for emergency’s. I see your WAFL team had the bye so just trying to work out who will be your sub

Langdon, Dixon and Petrevski-Seton all flew over

My best guess of those three would Petrevski-Seton
