Last week we were able to shutdown midfielders, cut the space off the forwards and apply pressure in our forward line.
This week against Port, we looked pedestrian often running into each other, we seem to defend the space but did not apply any pressure to the Port midfielder or the their defense, allowing them time and space and able to set the play.
It DOES NOT help when we missed three getable goals in the first half of the 2nd quarter that would have put us back in touch with Port, instead we missed and they skipped to a 50point lead. Again, we continually missed very easy goals that were bagged last week, and this just hurts us when Port convert theres.
Also, l think Dean didn't use Hale or Hamish enough when our forwards weren't doing anything as the only target and many stages was Edwards on three or just loose Port players.
However, l hope this hurts the team because this is what the players need to feel and insure never happens again in the future, you cannot just stop working hard and expect your team mates to do the work, what got us where we are is because of hard running and hard checking with quick entries into the forward 50....all of which we didn't do.
Great game by Ed Lower, Jesse Smith and the majority of the back line whom tried hard but continually got out of defense only to see nothing moving in the forward 1/2 of the midfield and forwards.....and of course Glen archer who never stop trying and harassing and attack the ball and the man....the youngster need to remember this!!!
