Easter Monday, bloody brilliant
Melbourne getting the 4 points

Hated:
Serious injuries to Broomhead and Scully

Learnt:
Doggies cooked

Liked:
Geelong v Hawthorn
Port Adelaide winning the battle of Port v Essendon in terms of recruits. Fantastic game by Port Adelaide
Fremantle

Hated:
Injuries. Collingwood/GWS specifically

Learned:
Western Bulldogs have a long way to go. Can't say I hate the idea of a rebuild. There are some small glimpses of positivity, but it's going to be a painful year.

liked:
we got pumped so a few players that should be dropped will be dropped, same as the adelaide game last year

hated:
selwood ducking for frees and asking the umps for more frees

learned:
dangerfield can do whatever he wants on field and they still won't call a free against

Liked Geelong losing by a point and the Dees grinding out a win they may have lost a few seasons ago.

Disliked Geelong milking frees as usual.

Learnt that it’s not a good idea to try and cut a goal post in half with your leg....

Liked:-

We got past the Pies who are always hard for us.

Classic game of footy today, great to watch a neutral.

Learnt:-

Port do look like the real deal, but early days.

Hated;-

Broomhead and Scully's injuries. Sad part of the game.

Liked: the hawks skills. That was so good to watch. The that game was sensational

Learned: port are the real deal
Hawks could be back again for finals

Hated. The dogs
Pathetic. The skills are the worst in the AFL. Half the team is vfl standard.

Liked:
-Hawthorn’s early run of form
-Big bags are back. Tom Lynch is a monster
-Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton all getting rolled on the same day
-Dusty Martin
-North having a crack

Hated:
-Geelong’s whinging for free kicks
-The Doggies. Sort your shit out guys
-Disgusting injuries
-Good Friday football. Shocking game and need to sort out which teams play on it. North + rotating club isn’t gonna work. I’m happy for North to remain a permanent fixture but they need to lock in another club.

Learnt:
-The Saints are really bad
-Geelong have no backline or forwardline, hence why they’re struggling to beat non-finalists from last year

Liked...Hawks tried desperately to blow it but finally won a close Easter Monday game. Great to see Roughy clunking some big contested marks again.

Disliked...Broomhead and Scullys injuries were shocking.
The Dogs are in a similar place to where Hawthorn were last year early in the season. They need a massive turnaround in their application.

Learnt...Both Adelaide sides are well placed for a Premiership run.
The Saints have lost their way in their journey towards the top echelon of teams.
Richmond don’t have quite enough class to beat strong opposition if they don’t bring the intensity at the contest they showed last postseason.

I learnt that holding the ball is now officially a personality based rule. Identical actions by different players yielding a totally different interpretation.
I feel sorry for the umpires. When the AFL website has "Here comes Dangerwoodlett - good luck hawks" or some such nonsense you can see that we are entering the WWE realm of garbage.

Learnt: Geelong are absolutely going to smash the record for most "Frees for" in a single season
In 2 rounds:

Geelong frees for 44
Geelong frees against 46

FYI, Collingwood already has 58 frees for in 2 rounds

Liked:
- The freo win was great to watch. Thoroughly enjoyed that game.
- Roughead's performance. Capatin's game in a close one.
- Winning a close one against Geelong - can see why their fans enjoyed it so much over the last 10 years!
- Seeing Port up and about. Always interesting to see which team will bolt from the mid range into the top tier. They're looking good.
- The adelaide win, and Tex standing up. I give him relentless crap but he really lifted the side.

Disliked:
- St Kilda's effort. Sheesh.
- Geelong's constant umpire appeals. Danger is now in the habit of sprawling forward a lot in pack situations. It's just gross. Really poor sportsmanship. (and yes, every side has people/sitations where it happens but we're talking about an extreme case here.)
- The injuries, particularly Broomhead's.

Learnt
- Yes, once again we have a season that is wide open
- Carlton are way off. Thought they were improving more than that.
- Stewy Dew must have made some good changes

Liked - Jeremy Finlayson. Good size and an unbelievably good kick on him.

Learnt - The Lions will upset a few sides this year. Pushed St Kilda last week and gave Melbourne a scare on Saturday night. Only a matter of time before they catch a team off guard.

Hated - Broomhead's leg.

Liked: the Hawks not quite coughing up a 25 point last quarter lead and getting a solid win over the Cats.

Learnt: not to read too much into pre-season hype. Lots of teams not living up to their billing, and a few showing good signs of improving from 2017.

Hated: bad injuries and whingeing to umpires.

Liked: Tim Kelly and Liam Ryan. Always good to see mature age players get a crack and shine. Both look like they will be guns.

Learnt: Hawthorn are the real deal.

Hated: Umps still falling for Selwood's compulsive ducking and whinging.
It's kind of interesting that both are mature age from the WAFL. We've taken Zac Langon at 21 from there as well. All three have stepped pretty much into AFL straight away and looked at home. Ryan a potential superstar. There's a bit of a theme in the last few years with others as well.
Given they need jobs while playing WAFL I wonder if they're on individual programmes to be ready in case.
It speaks well of the WAFL standard and the club systems anyway.

* Easter Monday clash. Cracker and a nail-biter.
* Big bags. Brown and Lynch's games must've been god's reward for having to play in the conditions last week :p
* Gold Coast starting to show progression, hate sides being useless without any sign of upside.

Hated:

* Losing, obviously. Worse is that there appears to be no lessons learnt from previous years re: our gamestyle.
* Good Friday clash. Skills were atrocious in the first half, and only North really woke up in the second.
* Scully/Broomhead injuries
* What the **** is going on with the Dogs? Won the hearts of many during 2015/16 but it still looks like they're drunk off their premiership hangover 18 months on. The list isn't that different......
* My tipping - went from being a set shot away from a perfect round to 3/9 :'(

Learnt (well this incorporates Rd 1 too):

* This season is going to be very even again.
* People, and probably myself were silly to write off Hawthorn. I felt earlier in the season (before backing off from it) that they were going to do a Sydney 2010 with their remaining veterans and some very promising youngsters clicking to surprise a lot of pundits. Not convinced about their flag credentials, but Top 8 looks likely.
* West Coast and North Melbourne aren't as bad as everyone thought
* Melbourne have learnt nothing
* How cooked was Rodney Eade? He did have a good record in the past but Dew has shown that the Suns list really wasn't that bad. Clearly was way out of touch in the modern game.
* Port are the real deal. Most people writing them off because of close losses in 2017 forget what actually happens to sides that lose a lot of close games one season - their luck tends to reverse the season after. Add a few quality additions and some really promising kids and you have yourselves a premiership contender.

Our endeavor against the Saints.

We got the 4 points and our first win in R2 not R6.

We are currently the best defensive side in the league based on having not yet conceded 100 points lol.

Hated:

The fact we coulda won by a lot more if we converted those early shots for goal in the first half.

Learnt:

We are not as bad as we thought.

Saints didn't show up taking credit away from our performance.

Mixed:

Melbourne this week. Could be interesting.
