We all know that horrific injuries can occur in an AFL game, just look at what happened to Nathan Brown for example.

What effect would it have on the game, if a player was to actually get killed in an AFL game, ie: from a broken neck? Ie: from going for a mark in a pack, a tackle gone wrong (ie: spear tackle), etc...

What would the impacts be?

Reactionary parents stopping their kids playing the game?

Please be serious, no smart-ar$e comments thanks. Would like a serious discussion for a change.

What do you think that the impact on the game overall would be, especially if it happened in a live broadcast game? What about grassroots supporters, parents, etc...

I guess the reckon would be dependant upon the type and injury and the incident.

If it was king hit, blood, convolusions - there'd be hysteria.

The reaction to Brown was because of the footage. It's what the camera's catch that determines the reaction.

You wouldnt know.

TV have a protocol in case of this. Just say the player ''looks in a bad way'' then ''hes being taken to hospital'' '' then '' sad sad shocking news we have learnt X has sadly passed away due to breathing difficulties, heres Max Head********er at Royal (insert city) Hospital''

It would certainly affect the game. In fact, if someone was pronounced dead on the field they would call the game off you would think (are there rules regarding this?).
If someone collapsed from a heart-attack or a stroke for example, it would just be a massive shock. If someone died because of an injury or a clash with another player, it would probably play on the players' minds. How hard would it be to go out there again and put yourself in the contest, after one of your mates died doing the same thing?
Lets hope this never occurs, because it would be tragic and most likely change the game forever.

So much for a serious thread
Im sorry but this namby pamby attitude of worrying what the ''mums'' think has to stop. The game is played as its played. If you want netball wear a skirt. Too many decisions are made for the minority which alienate the majority. And please dont bring up crowds are up crap.

The odds of someone dying are pretty good...it happens in amatuer football and games go on.

All I mean was exactly what I said...the minute someone tries to ask a legitimate question he gets stupid idotic answers...why cant anyone discuss a thread seriously?

Maybe because death makes us squirmish. If we dont talk about it it wont happen. Maybe because the fear is that the AFL wont know how to handle the outcry from ''concerned'' media and we as fans can see the same media who laps up the sport side suddenly turn like rabid dogs on the game.

It is a good point about the team-mates... I wonder how they would react, and if any would give the game away?

Has anyone died on the field in other Aussie Rules leagues, ie: SANFL, VFL, WAFL, Amatuer Leagues?

There was an incident in our league a couple of years ago in which a player in a reserve's match died... He collapsed i think at 3/4 time and passed away in the rooms.. The senior match got called off before it started and the teams split the 4 fours...

A TALENTED teenage footballer and nephew of Essendon legend Tim Watson has died after an on-field clash in a match in Adelaide.

Jake Watson, 17, died in hospital last night with his parents at his side.

He was also the son of former Richmond, Fitzroy and West Adelaide defender Larry Watson and an under 18 South Australian representative.

The youngster was playing for West Adelaide in an under-19s fixture against Woodville-West Torrens at Richmond Oval yesterday, when he collided with an opposition player.

No comment. Anyway I think if a player died during a game it would definitely be called off and rescheduled
not if it were the bombers or pies, and they were leading
