"1996 saw an influx of AFL teams and local soccer teams forming alignments to help gain interest across both codes. While others formed a new NSL team, some opted for a partial merger to bring the soccer influence into the AFL. As was the case with NSL side Heidelberg United and Collingwood Magpies. This collaboration featured Heidelberg's 1980 3 stripe kit on both sides and coloured black and yellow on Collingwoods classic white base. This only lasted one season as too did a few other ventures including Carlton/South Melbourne & St Kilda/Preston"
