Marty McFly has done himself a mischief and has altered the course of Aussie footy in ways you can't imagine!
Get ready to dive into alternate futures!

What is “What If” Wednesdays?
"What if" Wednesdays was a competition comprised of real-life football team proposals, merger propositions, former teams and a few hypotheticals brought to life by the FJGD community (eg. If the Melbourne-Hawthorn merger went ahead, if University/Fitzroy/Bris Bears stuck around, if Gold Coasts nickname were the Lifesavers etc.) it became this boards longest running competition (8/9/14 – 29/5/19). It has been revived under a meme cultured spin-off! Time traveller sneezes memes are all about butterfly effects on various things caused by a time traveller altering the past by means of a simple sneeze.

What’s new this time around?
This time or these times around, we will be flung into various timelines where our universes former teams, mergers, relocation proposals never existed or had its outcome altered slightly or severely! The list below is comprised of alternate timelines and the butterfly effect caused by our cheeky time traveller. Your job is to envision this outcome! Each comp will run for 1 week and the poll will run for 3 days. The winner picks the next team from the list below.

There are some routes you can go by if you're stuck:
  • The chosen team has entered their designated competition in the current year (unless specified) along with the current teams OR
  • You may design kits at any point in time unless strictly specified OR
  • Accompany your kits with a backstory on how the team came to be to help better envision the outcome OR
  • Try using AI text to conjure up a scenario and AI images to envision potential concepts OR
  • Use Google to search the history and stories behind what is being altered
Bare minimum for an entry is:
  • A home kit with the front of the jumper showing
    (Back, shorts, socks are optional)
  • OPTIONAL Away kit (Home with white shorts is acceptable)
  • OPTIONAL 3rd kit
    • Clash kit
    • Heritage kit
    • Other kit
  • OPTIONAL Club Logo (Highly Encouraged!)

Let’s see what has happened this time

  3. Minimum 1 kit and there's no limit to how many kits you can include after that
eg. Home and Away and/or Clash and/or Heritage and/or Others
    1. Designing a Home and away/clash kit is highly encouraged for that authentic feel and to develop that alternate universe experience
  4. Attempt to stay close to the altered timeline
  5. Directly copying current football team kits/logos are not allowed
  6. Creating a logo is encouraged but you may take inspiration from and/or alter any existing sports logo to drive home your design.

When Melbourne and St Kilda came together to merge it was decided by all power brokers involved that the club should keep some sort of religious nickname and appeal the Victorian Catholic community, thus the "Melbourne Bishops" were born. The Demons kept the "Melbourne Football Club" name with a merging of their red and blue to create the clubs new primary colour, "royal purple". A variation of the St Kilda logo, their rarely used yellow and Maddies match purple and their training facilities and base were the elements the Saints kept for the new club. The guernsey pays tribute to robes used by Catholic priests, purple robes in particular which are used during Lent.

Gonna try this time making a jumper from AFL23

If I succeed then it’s gonna be Melbourne-St.Kilda Nephilims

What is a Nephalem?

A Nephalem is a angelic-demonic hybrid, born from the union of an angel and demon. The offspring has a mixture of an angel and demon's power and human soul.

I don’t have the talent to do a logo, but otherwise it would have looked something like these..

Heaven and Hell merged, and with all fair mergers trying to keep fans happy both clubs agreed to keep their original names just as Woodville-West Torrens did.

The unholy union of an angel and a demon is a Nephalem.

Thus the Melbourne-St.Kilda Nephilims were born.

St.Kilda Demons (Melbourne and St. Kilda Merger)

St.Kilda tripanel design maintained.
Navy blue and red colours adopted on the front and back with a white centre.
Black shorts, collar and sleeves to maintain connection to St.Kilda colours.
Demons socks to ensure Melbourne identity equalised against the St.Kilda guernsey design.

Using Demons theme song, "Team of the Red, White and Blue".

Can't lie, I was stumped for ideas and conjured multiple tri-panel with yoke designs and eventually settled on a historic compromise. Loving the routes everyone's going!
WIW-TTSE----South-Yarra-Citizens.png

The design pays homage to both Melbourne's and St Kilda's early kits and shares colours from both teams. To decrease risk of alienating one sides supporters, they agreed to literally meet in the middle and rename their amalgamated team to the 'South Yarra Citizens' to encompass everyone between both cities. Red and white from the Flag of Melbourne and from both teams wearing red in their separate kits prior to merging and Navy from Melbourne and a link to Victoria's state colour. Both clubs prior to merging also were sponsored by Tooheys so they stayed on board and the jumper also includes the classic badge under the sponsor albeit it is now the Flag of Melbourne
