It's been my experience that Australia is several years behind the US in the culture wars.
So when it starts to affect here its burning out over there so we miss the extreme of whatever the culture was.

Several years AND what I believe to be a cultural trait we're blessed and cursed with - "She'll be right, mate!" In many ways it can lead to frustration when you want things to get done a certain way in a certain timeframe but when it comes to the culture wars, that apathetic "She'll be right, mate" and our reluctance to fully buy in to religious strictures at the national level are what's saving us here.
