No doubt she is at the top of the tree as our most valuable but Conti is a victim of her own lofty standards.

No better example than her missing the All Australian team.

I don't have a problem with Marinoff, Garner, Riddell getting a spot ahead of Mon. Outstanding seasons by those three, but missing a spot on the bench at the very least is simply ludicrous.

Compare her to those who made the interchange. You can probably use a dozen different stats and they would say the same thing but lets use the comp B & F votes.

Monique Conti - 17 votes
Chelsea Randall - 1 vote
Charlie Rowbottom - 9 votes
Alice O' Loughlin - 6 votes
Ally Anderson - 8 votes
Belle Dawes - 8 votes

It is just an inexcusable omission and to learn that Gemma Bastiani and Jason Bennett who have an intense dislike of Richmond are on the judging panel makes me puke!

CONTI
18 Poss @ 62% DE. 281 mtr. 4 Clearances. 2 behinds.

Egan 3 votes.
Conti 0 votes
Not sure how they got that, but anyway.

Maybe she could get more support when they’re trying to tag her outve the game.
I think they played her differently to previous…and I know we made finals.
But I don’t think it created an overall improvement.

Conti's in the team isn't she?

I only watch Richmond so can only comment on oppo when they play us.

We didn't play GC so can't comment on Rowbottom, but she's usually good. Wouldn't mind her at punt road.

Umps give Star Conti 17 & Spud Egan a dodgy 5?

The controversy of 4 umps voting, matching it up with stats afterwards ~ Lachie Neale, Cripps 3 votes in average games.

All Aust Team? LOL. a BS title for a football code that only plays in Aust.

To make the Mens All Australian team, ya basically have to come from Geelong.

RFC and Brownlows. Rarities. Happened 3 times in my days.

We brought a 2 time winner to the club and he won another. Traded out a player who won one elsewhere.

Agree, I think her disposal quality marks her down in the eyes of anyone who is an opponent, which Bastiani and Bennett could comfortably fall into the category of.

You will find that Mon's not that far off the mark with her disposal efficiency from a competition perspective.

Mon is at 59.2% career wise (54.9% 2024)

These are the other players leading the 2024 disposal count.

Marinoff 54.5% career (55.9% 2024)
Riddell 60.3% career (57.1% 2024)
Gardiner 57.8% career (59.1% 2024)
Rowbottom 58.8% career (63.4 2024)
Anderson 56.4% career (53.3% 2024)
Garner 63.7% career (61.3% 2024

Never heard a word about Marinoff or the others butchering the ball but she does. They all do. In saying that I reckon the overall DE percentage back in 2017 was probably in the low 40's

We both know it is one of the hardest positions to be clean in. The speed keeps increasing, meaning enths of a second keeps being wiped off the time to dispose with each passing year. With that speed of disposal comes a drop in efficiency - and it is different for each player with something as simple as handball to kick ratio. Being tagged generally reduces efficiency, having good ball users around you generally increases it. The variables are enormous, and thank goodness or we really would start to look like netball.

I'm not saying something Mon hasn't already said herself about herself. She has said she needs to get better with the ball. Getting it is not her weakness. Disposing of it isn't either, strictly speaking, however teams know that to put pressure on Mon does create turnovers, and whilst that could be true for others too, our turnovers are as gasp-drawing as any team. We over-achieve on what can be a pretty poor skill set at times.

Agree.

I also think the glaring thing for us is not so much turning it over but getting it back which makes a low DE look a lot worse.

What made our men's team so good during 2017-2020 was not the fact that we didn't make errors. It was the fact that we could let players player to their strengths and if they stuffed it up we would back ourselves to win the ball straight back which we did most times.

This is where we need to be better as a team as its a big difference compared to other teams.

Sheerin missed the first two games, and also had a mare vs Hawthorn, so I don't think her chances are strong.

McKenzie perhaps marginally leading midway, but Conti should run away with a much better 2nd half of the season. Basically the same story as the League B&F votes.
