So what 3 clubs do you think have the best 25 and under team? So if these were the teams going into the 2022 season, and assuming pretty much no injuries at all, which team do you think would be winning the flag?

You can vote for 3 options to give a bit of range.

From my perspective I like Gold Coast as they look like a fairly balanced side with an excellent midfield. GWS looks really strong as well without many glaring weaknesses. I think Carlton has a fairly strong side as well.

Missing Charlie Curnow for Carlton.

I am surprised North are winning right now as no offence to North but I think Gold Coast's under 25 team would smash North's team has a very good midfield but it has some glaring holes elsewhere. I would not trust their defence or forward line one bit.
The side as named looks a little bit strange to me, here's my reconfigured one:

FB: Aiden Bonar, Ben McKay, Kyron Hayden
HB: Atu Bosenavulagi, Matt McGuinness, Josh Goater
C: Tarryn Thomas, Tom Powell, Bailey Scott
HF: Jason Horne-Francis, Nick Larkey, Jaidyn Stephenson
FF: Cam Zurhaar, Callum Coleman-Jones, Jack Mahony
FOL: Tristan Xerri, Jy Simpkin, Luke Davies-Uniacke
I/C: Will Phillips, Curtis Taylor, Charlie Lazzaro, Charlie Comben

In: Matt McGuinness, Atu Bosenavulagi
Out: Lachie Young, Jacob Edwards

-Lachie Young out, he is not a tall defender. If we actually had to play like this I think they'd probably throw Charlie Comben back there and hope for the best, but instead I included Matt McGuinness who's been training as a tall defender. Remains to be seen whether he can play but he looks decent.
-Replaced the named half-back flankers with Atu Bosenavulagi and Josh Goater. Bailey Scott is a wingman/defensive forward and Will Phillips is a midfielder, neither of them play HBF. Atu played back there last year and looked good, he would bring much needed run and carry to this backline. Same with Josh Goater.
-Jacob Edwards out. The side as named was way too tall with both him and Charlie Comben on the bench.
-Rejigged the midfield, moved Jaidyn Stephenson and Jason Horne-Francis to the forward line (because that's where they'll be playing this year) Replaced them with Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Scott.
-Swapped Xerri and Coleman-Jones. X is more of a ruckman, CCJ will be playing more forward this year.
-Also, you spelled Jack Mahony's name wrong. There's no E.

That forward line looks fine to me, it's just a matter of how good the delivery is. It's very close to what we'll be running with this season, give or take Todd Goldstein.

I'm Definitely not biased :p But I could see 6-7 of those blue names turning green in the next 2 years.

Just skimming it I’d have the best sides as Gold Coast, Carlton and North.

Gold Coast almost looks like their best 22.

Carlton have a ton of guys with plenty of AFL experience plus Weitering, Walsh and McKay are some of the best u25 players in the league.

North draft pick accumulation is really starting to add up. Too much solid kids not to be included.

To be honest though I’m not sure the strength of a sub 25 side is a good indicator of future performance. What is far more important is who your best players are in that age group and which unproven players have the most upside.

I liked the part where they named Caldwell twice and that the extra Caldwell was allowed to play as a 4th on baller.

I don't know enough about some of the players in other teams - but pretty happy with where Freo is at:

  • 11 x first rounders (Chapman, Logue, Young, Clark, Erasmus, Amiss, Henry, Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Sturt)
  • 4 x later round / rookie gems (Darcy, Cox, Treacy, Frederick)
  • Two tall/key defenders (Cox, Logue); Two tall/key forwards (Treacy, Amiss); Centre bounce unit (Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong)
  • Lots of pace (Chapman, Walker, Clark, Erasmus, Henry, Frederick, Sturt)
  • Only 5 of the 22 would you say are probably not going to be best 22 within the nest two years (Walker, O'Driscoll, Crowden, Meek and Banfield) - and the first two of those may well prove me wrong. This assumes that Brodie keeps up his form from pre-season.
  • Only 2 of the 22 look like spending more time on the injury list than on the field (Sturt and to some extent Cox)

Not saying it's the best - but pretty bloody happy.

Having said all that - it does go to show how important the 2021 draft class will be because in Erasmus and Johnson we have the Fyfe and Mundy replacements on paper, and in Amiss hopefully an upgrade on Taberner in 2-3 years - but only time will tell.

Quick skim through and I like:
  • Carlton, high end talent
  • Coll, depth
  • GWS, very solid
  • GC, bulk of their side
  • ESS, good mix of talent and depth
  • Freo, excellent
  • North, has gaps but high end talent
  • Sydney, lots of good players

I’d go Gold Coast, Freo, Carlton.

Not really a surprise it’s the teams that have been rebuilding for the longest and so have guys approaching mid 20’s and a depth of talent.
