Collingwood got smashed but at least it was against quality opposition. Sydney on the other hand lost to a team that many tipped to win the spoon. Carlton's loss has arguably ended their season already with even the coach now writing off the team's flag chances.

Richmond's loss was also disappointing as many had them as locks for the top 4 prior to the season starting. North much like Richmond were hyped up pre-season but got completely outplayed by Essendon, a team whom many tipped to miss the top 8. The 39 point losing margin was flattering for the Roos.

Melbourne's loss was somewhat grim as St. Kilda are clear wooden spoon favourites, that along with the fact there was a lot of optimism leading into their game following their appointment of Paul Roos and strong pre-season. Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions both put in very respectable performances in games they were expected to lose, although both had last quarter fade outs. The Bulldogs got hammered, suffering the second biggest defeat this round, but many expected their game to be a blowout. The manner in which they played was still very lacklustre and worrying. I'd have to say Sydney.

Not for me….Collingwood looked clueless after quarter time.

It was a terrible performance.
I'd agree with that.
Sydney's loss seemed to be a combination of complacency and meeting an unexpectedly fired-up opponent, who will take some scalps this year.
On the other hand, Collingwood were ferocious at the ball and in the tackle but just seemed overwhelmed in terms of quality.

good question; you could choose either one of the magpies or swans with good reason.

collingwood lost to a v good team but as good as fremantle were the magpies were pathetic

while the swans lost a game they were expected to win plus buddy had a shocker

not sure richmond get a mention here ... they lost a game to a team with a superior list playing @ home ....

A loss is a loss.

We fielded a grossly inexperienced side against a team with 20 of it's grand final day starters. We were massive underdogs going into the game and got smashed. It happens. Who was realistically expecting us to win?

Richmond has shown a repeated propensity to lose these sort of games. The fact that no one is surprised should be of greater concern than the loss itself.

Sydney's premium dollar additions don't add hustle, which is what GWS used to get over the line.

Time will tell but probably Sydney. All 3 teams want to contend. When you look at top 4 teams at the end of the year there are usually v few surprise losses. Look at 5-8 and there is often conjecture about great performance against the big boys and a lament about a couple of losses against also rans that really cost. At the end of the year Sydney's loss may be the thing that cost them a home final or a top 4 possie

Collingwoods is bad because of how we lost. If we can get back on track and especially if we knock off Sydney next match, it will quickly become a hiccup. Of course if it's the start of a run of losses it will be the sign Collingwood has slipped big time

Richmond was a bad loss for a team that wants to push top 4 but the least bad of the three

Other factor to consider is in the weeks ahead Freo, GWS and GC may perform in such a way as to make these losses look not as bad in retrospect

Collingwood had a very inexperienced side available although some of the senior players didn't quite look as they were putting in 100%
Sydney will suck it up and move on. Still plenty of quality to come back into the team.
Richmond though presented quite a bit of what they least would have wanted to. A failing under pressure.

Think Richmond may have the right to be most disappointed even though on face value, theirs may have looked like the best losing performance.

Tipped 2 of them. No prizes for guessing which. Pies went down by a lot more than I expected but they had a few players down and also a few outs. The new rules I thought, particularly the disposal attempt one, favours kicking teams like Freo. I would expect over 50% of people tipped Freo, maybe not by as much but once a team starts losing that can happen.
Richmond were playing away, the number 1 player in the league had a blinder and their first number 1 pick has started to show why he was selected that high. And their concessions are finally kicking in. Tipping could have been 50/50 on this one and it showed. Richmond led in the last quarter then fell in a hole. Although if Gold Coast hadn't kicked that 0.8 Richmond would have been nowhere.
The worst - well the team that finished in the top 4 last year, albeit this time without Kieren Jack gave up something like the last 7 goals to a team that had pre-season been tipped for the spoon.

Collingwood easily. Showed that their kids are no where near as good as they made out and their list is full of list cloggers such as Maxwell Harry O McCaffer Clarke.

To be fair though Collingwood supporters weren't the ones drumming them up as much as the media were last year.
No sooner had a player made their debut and they were being talked up as Brownlow Medalists.

Kids are kids and they'll take time, whether they be picks in the 30s at Collingwood or 1st rounders at GWS.

Had a summer of listening to them talk up Keefe who wasnt picked. Grundy and Witts who look lost.

Sydney were alarmingly bad. Warning signals going off with disinterested players in hannebery and mcveigh who have shown that if they drop their intensity by 5% then they really are back to what they were, average footballers.

It is startling that Sam Reid is playing afl. Occasionally he seduces everyone with a nice pack mark which hides the fact that he has no football ability at all.

Franklin will struggle to mark the ball with helicopters sent down by josh Kennedy and co. he is a great first possession gatherer Kennedy but 9 out of 10 kicks are mongrels.

These flaws along with their rucks will be heavily exposed this year.

Collingwood. They played their strongest midfield and got absolutely smashed in the engine room. So don't give us the inexperienced BS when the rot started with their over rated midfield. Would be surprised if they made top 8.

Contested possessions and clearances were pretty much even. We didn't lose it in the middle. Just everywhere else.

I think Sydney have been grossly overrated and GWS underrated. GWS are going to surprise a lot of teams this year and with their senior inclusions this year they're a much better balanced side, they also have 27 first round picks!!!! I also don't think Franklin will be the player they were hoping for, there were signs last year at Hawthorn of it, that signing will go down as one of the worst in history.

Collingwood would have to be the worst after the way the club has talked up the season.

Evidence?

I'd say the majority of pies supports don't think we'll even make the top 4.

Sydney by a country mile. Yes we had a terrible game but we went up against the grand finalists, and will probably be there again this year. As for Richmond, they were the ones talked up, VERY average side they are.

I need that 'not sure is serious' gif. Everywhere I go I see/hear Collingwood people talk this season up

Sydney by a mile. Completely shocked everyone.
This. Collingwood lost a game they were expected to lose, and Richmond was 50/50 against the Gold Coast. Sydney were expected to win and lost, badly.

Collingwood's loss was poor but Sydney dropped a game against a side most expect will be outside the eight. Can't make back those four points.
