well in my eyes these are clearly the 2 best young mids in the game

when bigfooty users are debating who is better the argument that gibbs has got a lot of improvement left and selwood is not going to get much better often comes up

who do u think

Where's the "both" option?

Gibbs is younger and less physically developed than Selwood, if that's any help. Plus he's only been playing proper centre square midfield for around 10 matches.

cotchin,

but out of these 2 i guess gibbs hasnt really shown much yet other than he can get a kick loose across half back

Gibbs already gets 30 plus disposal games, I don't see where his improvement is going to come from. Selwood can improve his game by giong forward and kicking the odd goal.

Gibbs is only 19 and hasn't shown himself as a full time midfielder yet. What he has shown is a great ability to win one on one contests and he has done well down back, up forward (a couple of 3 goal bags) and in tagging roles. I would say he has far more improvment left in him than selwood, who is atm much further infront of gibbs. Selwood was almost a AA in his second year how can he get much better? It will be interesting to see if Selwood can step it up again this season and ease some pressure of ablett and bartel. (If Geelong won the flag selwood would have played like 45 games for 43 wins and 2 flags, thats crazy!)

I think Selwood has already reached an elite level and should've been AA this year at least on the bench. His game against Fremantle where they won by 1 point showed that he is ready to take on the Geelong captaincy whenever they give it to him. He is a special kid and i'm spewing we missed out on him. We did, however prioritise for a KPP in that draft, so we may have made the right decision in the end.

Gibbs has more improvement to come but that's only because he is currently so far behind Selwood who would be close to a top 10 midfielder in the competition. Gibbs is a better mark and kick and probably has slightly better evasive skills but in every other aspect Selwood is far in front at this stage.

the argument that selwood has no improvement left in him is absolutely ridiculuous. i think some people need reminding he is only 20 years old. it doesn't matter how physically developed you are, you're always learning new things about the game and about your own game. he still has room to pack on a few more kilos and i'm sure his time trials could also do with some work. it may be little when compared to other 20 year olds, but make no mistake selwood will improve.

for the sake of the poll, i think it's pretty obvious gibbs is the one who ahs more improvement left in him but that has little correlation with him becoming the better footballer. such is selwood's lead in front of gibbs atm, that it is possible gibbs could show a sh!tload more improvement but never become as good a player as selwood.

the reasons why i think gibbs has more development left in him are because he obviously has more room too fill out into and his time trial times aren't even close to where they should be for an elite midfielder (i'm not sure how selwood's are but watching him play he doesn't seemt o have any problems running out games). gibbs also has to lift his workrate, his intensity when near the ball is as good as anyone's but i'd like to see him continue to improve his workrate and get to more contests.

one thing's for sure, these 2 will be absolute gems for their respective clubs and will most likely captain their clubs one day.

Gibbs has got heaps more improvement in him than Selwood... lucky though because Selwood is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gibbs at the moment!!

IMO Selwood has gone past Bartel as the 2nd best Mid at Geelong and would be in the top 5 mids in the comp.

Gibbs would be lucky to be in the top 30 at this stage

Gibbs = more improvement. Selwood = better at the moment.
Selwood is two years older than Gibbs, yes/no??
I think they will both be superstars of the game in future.

I went Gibbs. Still alot of improvement left in him (not to say he's bad!). He's learning his trade and playing a variety of positons, where as Selwood is a full time midfielder.

Selwood is a fair away infront, but Gibbs will surpass him I think. Just needs his body to mature more and to develop more hunger for the contest.

Both are guns. Both have heaps of potential too.

I think Selwood is slightly better atm, but he is also older. Gibbs will improve more, but they will remain very even in the future.
