i reckon Hird would have keep up to date with football strategy over the last few years.

he strikes me as the kind of guy who would keep his Kayo subscription active even though the bombers were on free to air for that month.

Nah, I hear he gets Steph to watch at a friend's place and give him cliff notes because he's tight and lazy.

It's why my money is on Steph, in combination with her recent PwC experience.

The likelihood of a hypothetical is irrelevant?

Weird take.
It's a hypothetical.

Would you rather get kicked in the balls by Megan Fox or kissed on the mouth by Donald Trump?

These hypothetical games are common amongst other far fetched hypothetical questions posed on this forum without people having an issue answering them.

doesn’t she have experience as a Team Manager? bring her in!

I’d love to kick Donald Trump in the balls.

But seriously though, all I’m getting at it is that it’s not really a surprise that people appear unwilling to devote much energy to a hypothetical that seems so unlikely.

I mean, hypothetically I could buy seven houses tomorrow if I magically come into 10 million dollars.

It’s exceedingly unlikely to happen though, so I’m probably not going to waste much time dreaming of it happening.

But back to pegging the orange dickhead in his cods…

I think she'd need a director of coaching. Someone with previous senior coaching experience who would have a good relationship with her, so we should look and see if we can find someone who could support her in that role without knifing her.

7 whole houses for $10m in this country?

Tell him he's dreaming.

Every single coach Essendon's had has said "trust the system, learnings, it takes years and hard work", while collingwood, tigers, dees, have all proven it can be done relatively quickly. Other teams are consistently doing well. So what, throw out Dodoro, Sheedy, overhaul everything, muh coteries, get Yze, then it's all gonna click? It seems all you need is a good coach, and an aligned footy department. I don't think you'll get that with an overhaul, the hierarchy will be completely unstable initially.

On the other hand you have The Chosen One. He's proven he can make gold out of stone with that year Essendon were 2nd going into round 18, the only team to beat Freo in WA that year. He thinks Essendon is special, and looking at Collingwood this year, with the slander Ned Guy got after setting them up for this, does it matter what others think? This could blow up badly, and then the old guard admits fault and the already pissed fans will bay for blood; or it could go off like Gandalf's fireworks and we see something like 2013. I guess some players may be worried they'll be injected with experimental vaccines or some such, but he's learned his lesson on that one. It's worth a go I reckon.

Yeah look, forgive me for not finding the argument that “maybe it will blow up, then we’ll know for sure we have to chuck out the old guard” particularly inspiring.

I wouldn't discount the amount of anger and rage that still resides in the general mouth breathing AFL community (media included) from saga times - more than anything else they think we and by we i say James Hird, pretty much hijacked an entire season or two of their precious league

so to have him seemingly wander back into the mix without much in the way of admittance or apologizing is quite triggering

i'm actually in their camp too.

You only have to look at posts on the mainboard from when Hird was mentioned as having a GWS role to see just how deep the hatred runs. Plenty of people think Hird didn't suffer enough despite literally being pushed to the point of self harm.

But, the media will love the clicks $$$$$$$$

Add:
  • 150 years at the Carlton game when he walked out through the smoke and was reintroduced to the masses who cheered wildly = interpret as approval from supporter base
  • Time spent at GWS in a leadership role and then a FIFO line coach = interpret as approval from neutral club
  • McLachlan says he’d be happy for Hird to coach again = interpret as approval from powers that be
  • Small amount of soft publicity via Howie Games podcast and Caro/Robbo dancing around it = interpret as approval from media
I think Hird has been toying with the idea of getting back into the footy industry all year and has had encouragement from everyone in the low key part-time casual stuff he’s done a bit of.

I don’t think he was planning to get Rutten turfed from his job or anything like that, but the stage was already set for this return of the king stuff, all it needed was for someone to strike a match.

Definitely not planned from the club side, but it’s as close to served on a silver platter as Sheedy ever could have dreamed of.
exactly right.

There has been too much redemption arc stories in the media, esp. of late related to the drugs stuff that went on.
The momentum begun early in the year and it looks an unstoppable force now.

Wouldn't put it past Sheeds to side with Barham, then work against him in order to secure this.

on the bright side, it probably has 2-3 years to succeed or fail. Appointing Hird is a bit all or nothing. He needs to deliver top 4 quicker than most given he gets the leg up in the process others don't (invite with very little credentials so suggest he should be).

Not really a lot of energy, unless it raises unwanted emotions which is kinda my point.

Additionally, there are several here (me included) who don't think it's as unlikely as you or many others think.

Often hypothetical questions serve that purpose. One person who wants to know the thoughts of another person who doesn't want to answer a question that involves them, energy or emotion. So an abstract hypothetical enables the possibility of them thinking about it evenly and answering.

Regardless, we digress. Back to hating each other over Hird (and pegging Trump apparently).

Gosh here's me trying to get some actual work done instead of babysitting this thread for a change and you're already fighting like children 🙄

Keep it civil, play the ball not the man, etc etc you know the drill. If someone really gets your goat, put them on ignore.
Work? Wait, you're not a bot? You mean to say you have a life outside of this place?

We definitely don’t need anyone on training wheels again. There aren’t to many experienced coaches out there who have had some success.
I’m a busy man, but you’re in a deep hole with the Bombers and I’m prepared to dig you out! I am hereby nominating myself for the position of senior coach. Down to business. You want to know what experience I’ve had of coaching a football team? Absolutely none. So what! The name of the game is motivation and psychology and that I know about. Why do you suppose Tom Hafey consistently delivered the goods? Because he could terrorise the boys into turning it on for him, That’s why. I’ll be the same. I’ll have the boys so psyched up that they’ll run around the park like demented threshing machines reducing even the Collingwood army to a bunch of quivering jelly backs. In one respect only will I carry on the policies of my predecessor, I’ll get rid of all the good players, it won’t take long. The players who stay behind will feel less bad about their uselessness out the on the ground. You also seem to have a few bad eggs on the boardroom table, they will have to go. I’ll be happy to drop around to the Hanger to finalise the details, salary, perks, kick backs etc.

Up the Bombers.
